The issue continues to affect the entertainment industry, even as celebrities who liked the post have apologized and explained their stance to ease the drama, before deleting comments and unliking.
Because recently, Karn Chatchanan Chantachinda, or Karn KARNFOEI, a content creator and well-known YouTuber from the KARNFOEI channel, posted a counter-trend message on social media, viewing the like simply as encouragement to a friend. He wrote, "I'm so hopeless about this country, where liking a post is judged as a crime. Anyone who disagrees must apologize for matters that are not their business. Meanwhile, when they are wronged themselves, it's ignored. Wishing you progress. Amen."
He also commented, "You all seem like people without friends, so you don't understand what it means to encourage a friend. So stop freaking out and stop creating a toxic society. Look at yourself and stop judging others."
What really angered netizens was Karn's comment saying, "Go improve your own life. The people you insult all have good lives. Use your brains." This sparked heavy criticism, seen as classist and insulting to ordinary people who work hard daily, contrasting sharply with the YouTuber’s profession which depends on likes and views from the very people he insulted.
Worse, the KARNFOEI YouTube channel faced a backlash with netizens threatening to unfollow, urging others to report the channel, and even vowing to boycott its sponsor products.
Following the controversy, Karn posted an apology on his Instagram @biatchboyy with the following content:
“I would like to clarify my recent post. These are my personal opinions alone. I do not intend to support or condone harassment, violence, or any inappropriate actions in any form. What I wanted to express then was encouragement for someone close who was facing intense social pressure.
But I now understand that my message may have made many feel I was overlooking the seriousness of the issue. I did not intend to insult or dismiss anyone’s feelings as worthless. If my post made anyone uncomfortable, disappointed, or feel disregarded, I sincerely apologize.
I take full responsibility for my comments and communication alone. This does not involve the KARNFOEI channel or anyone close to me. Going forward, I will be more careful in my communication and open to listening to everyone’s opinions more than before...”
