After the well-known comedian Sang Dok Sadao or Mr. Mee Sakon, aged 63, passed away peacefully from lung cancer at Chaophraya Yommarat Hospital in Suphanburi province. Sang Dok Sadao lived with his wife, Mrs. Karaket Sakon, aged 64, and they had three children: Miss Kasorn Sakon, 36, the eldest; Mr. Matthanun Sakon, 30, the middle son; and Mr. Mingmongkol Sakon, 27, the youngest son. Additionally, Sang had one child with a previous wife, totaling four children. Upon hearing the news, the child from the previous marriage planned to attend the funeral. Recently, the family opened up to Thairath TV about the sad news.
Mr. Matthanun Sakon, the 30-year-old middle son, revealed that his father experienced difficulty breathing, fatigue, and neck pain. He was admitted on 12 May and initially taken to the emergency room. After moving to a separate room, he began to lose appetite. When I visited on 13 May, Dad started saying he wanted to have a breathing tube inserted as he could no longer eat. They tried feeding him through a tube, but it failed, and his breathing worsened, prompting the nurse to call the doctor.
The doctor was unable to insert the feeding tube, so they proceeded with intubation and transferred him to the ICU on the night of 13 May. I visited Dad during visiting hours and heard him sometimes doing well and sometimes struggling for breath. Dad asked us to take care of Mom and never to leave her. He was very worried about her and once told her he would go first because he feared the children would have a hard time. He did everything until the very last moment; even while ill, he continued working.
The funeral will be held at U Thong Temple, Kok Kram Subdistrict, Bang Pla Ma District, Suphanburi province, which is on the mother's side of the family. They have not yet decided how many nights the chanting will last and will provide updates after discussing with everyone, as no one can decide alone.
Meanwhile, Miss Kasorn Sakon, the 36-year-old eldest daughter, shared that her father passed away at 04:42. The last words he spoke to me were that he had fought his best and asked me to do the same. I visited him at 1 p.m. and decided to pursue full treatment that day. By 7 p.m., when I visited again, he was unresponsive, sleeping continuously and unconscious for two days.
Yesterday, he remained unconscious. At noon, I brought a Buddhist offering for him to touch, planning to perform the merit-making ritual together. He writhed in pain but was unresponsive. When called, he showed no awareness. I placed the envelope in his hand and guided his hand to touch the offering, asking him to pray for health, smooth recovery, safety, and success. With a trembling voice, I told him I loved him, had done my best, fulfilled his wishes, and loved the family very much. I told him not to worry about Mom.
She recounted that previously, she often had arguments with her father but made up within a day or two. The last time they quarreled badly, causing her distress, coincided with his ICU admission. She rushed to see him; on the first day, he was asleep, but the next day he regained consciousness. She apologized for their quarrel, and he nodded in acceptance. She told him to get well soon and come to make peace with her because she wasn’t at fault. He agreed, fought hard, and said he loved her. The funeral will be held at U Thong Temple, with the body being moved out tomorrow (19 May 2026). The water pouring ceremony is expected around 3 p.m., but the number of chanting days and cremation date will be decided later.
Mrs. Karaket Sakon, 64, wife of Sang Dok Sadao, revealed that her last conversation with her husband was when they visited the ICU together with their daughter. That day, he told their daughter to pursue full treatment. He seemed aware and said he had to go first, that Kasorn was already improving and she need not worry or cry. He told them to stay strong and keep going. He had cared for her throughout, feeding her and giving medicine while hospitalized. The daughter added that he worried about Mom and wanted her to stay with him, so they arranged for her to sleep there, with the daughter taking the morning shift instead.
When asked how long they had been together, the wife said over 40 years with three children. The daughter added that he had one child with another woman, making a total of four children. Asked about the love Sang had for the family, his wife said he loved her deeply, which she understood herself. Throughout their life together, he never let her work, gave her all the money to manage, and always asked permission before going anywhere. He took excellent care of the family, loved and worried about them, but never complained about his pain.
The daughter added that on 4 February, he complained of neck pain and swelling. They checked and took him to the hospital. He had been coughing for a long time, especially while caring for his mother in hospital. She bought him two bottles of cough medicine daily, joking that he was addicted. The wife continued that when she had a stroke, he took great care of her. Asked if she wanted to say anything, she wished him a peaceful journey to a good realm and to meet only good things. She expressed love but acknowledged he could not be kept alive.
