Toyota Land Cruiser 300 HEV Launched in Australia with Stylish Performance

Toyota has launched the Land Cruiser 300 in Australia equipped with a hybrid powertrain featuring a V6 twin-turbo engine that produces 457 horsepower and 790 Newton-meters of torque, without compromising driving performance on any road condition.

The Toyota Land Cruiser has achieved great success throughout its nearly 75-year history and is Toyota's longest-running production model. Since its debut in 1954, the Land Cruiser family has evolved over time into three series marketed simultaneously:

Station Wagon series: This represents the current 300 series and the new Performance Hybrid model, available in various global regions including Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific.

Heavy Duty series The globally renowned 70 series, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, is sold in Africa, the Middle East, and the Pacific markets.

Light Duty series: This group includes the new 250 series, which is the main model for the European market.

New Performance Hybrid powertrain

The Land Cruiser 300 now introduces a hybrid powertrain for the first time. This high-performance hybrid system (Performance Hybrid) combines the model’s legendary qualities with Toyota’s leadership in electric vehicle technology, built over more than 30 years since the first Prius was launched.

This debut of an electrified Land Cruiser aligns with Toyota's Multipath philosophy, aiming to offer powertrain options tailored to individual customer needs and local environments on the path toward carbon neutrality.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 HEV features a new system combining a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo engine with a single motor-generator in a parallel hybrid arrangement. This delivers increased power and high torque towing capability to the Land Cruiser.

It also maintains excellent all-terrain driving performance without compromise. Maximum output is 457 horsepower (DIN) or 227 kilowatts, making it the most powerful Land Cruiser ever, with peak torque increased by 20% to 790 Newton-meters.

The gasoline engine and single motor-generator work together to maximize torque and power from the electric motor, providing strong, responsive, and continuous acceleration. Throttle response improves by 40% compared to the 3.3-liter twin-turbo internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrain of the Land Cruiser 300.

Additionally, the vehicle can operate solely on electric motor power at speeds below 30 km/h, automatically and seamlessly switching to EV mode.

The system’s new structure positions the motor-generator with a clutch between the engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission. Engine start, EV driving, electric power assist, and regenerative charging are all managed by the hybrid system, which includes a nickel-metal hydride battery. Alongside the hybrid system, a new electric power steering setup enhances precision and vehicle control on all road types.

This model has undergone rigorous testing in challenging environments worldwide to verify its all-terrain driving capabilities. Measures include waterproofing the battery housing to ensure water fording performance matches the previous model at 700 millimeters.

The new Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid will begin launching and sales in select Eastern European markets from January 2026 onward.

How many Land Cruiser 300 variants are there?

The new Land Cruiser 300 will be offered in three trims: VX, ZX, and GR SPORT, all featuring a five-seat cabin layout. Technical details across all trims reflect the Land Cruiser’s status as a premium vehicle capable of tackling the toughest terrains.

Both screens measure 12.3 inches. The system includes navigation and an in-car entertainment system with a premium JBL sound system featuring 14 powerful speakers. Comfort is enhanced by a four-zone climate control system with rear-seat heaters, heated steering wheel, and electrically adjustable front seats.

Driver assistance across trims includes comprehensive off-road support, featuring Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select system that automatically adjusts brake and drive forces to suit various driving conditions. Crawl Control and a Multi-Terrain Monitor provide safe driving over rough surfaces.

Additionally, Downhill Assist Control, Blind Spot Monitor, parking sensors, and a Panoramic View Monitor improve safety and ease of control on regular roads.

ZX trim: Features an aero parts package emphasizing the Land Cruiser’s powerful appearance. Key features include Adaptive Variable Suspension, five driving modes, a head-up display, hands-free kick sensor for the tailgate, and a limited-slip differential.

GR SPORT trim Showcases design elements inspired by the multiple world championship-winning TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team. This trim has specially designed front and rear bumpers and fender flares to create a more aggressive and formidable look. The front grille features the classic TOYOTA lettering. The 18-inch wheels are designed specifically for off-road use.

The GR SPORT carries GR badges both on the exterior and inside the cabin. Off-road performance is enhanced by the addition of the e-KDSS (electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System), which automatically disengages the stabilizer bars to increase wheel articulation and maintain tire contact on extremely rough terrain.
