On 31 Jan 2023, "Thairath Group" held a prize draw to find the winners from the campaign "Cheer Football Loudly and Celebrate Luck" for the 2022 World Football event, with grand prizes worth over 15 million baht at Warehouse 7, Thairath Group headquarters. A massive stack of postcards predicting Argentina as the champion was sorted by Thailand Post Co., Ltd.
This campaign was organized by Thairath in cooperation with 12 sponsors for the 22nd FIFA World Cup held in Qatar from 20 Nov to 18 Dec 2022, where Argentina was crowned champion. This year, 112,404,821 postcards were sold, and 48,499,815 postcards sorted by Thailand Post were delivered to Thairath Group for the prize draw.
Gustavo Alberto Martino, Ambassador of Argentina to Thailand, spun the wheel to randomly select postcard stack numbers and drew the first prize of 5 million baht cash, one winner. Witnesses included Watcharapol Watcharaphon, CEO of Thairath TV and Thairath Online, and Dr. Danan Supatphand, CEO of Thailand Post Co., Ltd.
Mr. Danan Supatphan, CEO of Thailand Post Co., Ltd., said this was a much-anticipated day following the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup on 18 Dec 2022. Over 103 million postcards and online postcards were submitted: 93,207,065 postcards and 10,263,690 online postcards via the Prompt Post app. Of these, 48,499,815 predicted Argentina as the 2022 World Cup champion. Thailand Post is very pleased to be part of delivering happiness to the Thai people at year-end.
Meanwhile, Gustavo Alberto Martino, Ambassador of Argentina to Thailand, said he was delighted to attend the event and was amazed to see the enormous pile of postcards. He appreciated Thai support for Argentina's team and congratulated Thailand’s football team on winning the 2022 ASEAN Cup. The diplomatic relationship between Thailand and Argentina has been friendly, strong, and long-standing for 67 years, reaching 68 years on 2 Feb 2023. Many cultural exchanges are possible, such as sharing Argentina’s football skills while Thailand shares Muay Thai martial arts. They hope to continue and develop the relationship between the two countries.
Regarding prize collection procedures, after announcing the winners, Thairath will send letters to winners at their provided addresses. Upon receiving the letter, winners must call Thairath to schedule a date and time to collect their prizes. On the collection day, winners must bring the letter, their original ID card, and household registration to receive the prize at Thairath. If the winner is a minor, they must bring their birth certificate and original ID card along with the guardian’s original ID card.
