Abhisit Tours Rayong to Meet Business Operators, Admits Its Too Early to Predict Eastern MPs

Abhisit toured Rayong Province to meet business operators, acknowledging that the Democrat Party is slower than other parties in selecting Eastern MPs candidates but affirmed they are choosing the most suitable individuals for the role.

At 3:00 p.m. on 4 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters noted that Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party and former prime minister, along with Dr. Satit Pitutecha, former Deputy Minister of Public Health, traveled to meet business operators and various sectors in Rayong Province. Their goal was to hear the difficulties faced by the business community to develop sustainable solutions. Mr. Thinkorn Lawansathien, president of the Rayong Chamber of Commerce, along with operators from industry, agriculture, logistics, and tourism sectors, shared concerns impacting their livelihoods. They presented these issues as matters to be addressed if the party returns to government. Additionally, Abhisit and Dr. Satit visited vendors at Lung Nu Market in Choeng Noen Subdistrict, Mueang District, Rayong, to hear their hardships.

Abhisit revealed that he had the opportunity to visit and meet with the private sector and communities in Chanthaburi and Rayong. He listened to their problems and exchanged ideas about the challenges the Democrat Party is currently addressing—not only in Rayong but across Thailand. He expressed a genuine intention to hear directly from the business sector.

Abhisit responded to questions about selecting Eastern MPs candidates by admitting that the party’s process has been slower than others. The party closed applications for its "Good MPs" program on 30 Nov 2025. They are now following legal procedures, including verifying candidate qualifications and submitting names to party branches or representatives in each province for review. The party’s selection committee will decide on the most suitable candidates and promptly present them to the party’s executive committee. Regarding expectations for the number of MPs the party might win in the East, he said it is still too early to answer. The party recognizes it started later than others because of recent organizational changes.

Abhisit added that the party is committed to selecting candidates who can meet the needs of local people, including those in the Eastern region and Rayong Province. When asked if the party can still win support in the East this election, he said that reviewing the party’s national policies—such as education, health volunteer stipends, and specific issues related to Rayong like solutions for Map Ta Phut, water supply, introducing education catalogues, and infrastructure development—serves as a guarantee that the party is ready to work here.
