Wan Nor Receives Policy Guidance as Prime Ministers Advisor, Emphasizes Joint Effort to Resolve Southern Border Issues and Drug Suppression

Wan Nor went to the Thai Khu Fah Building to receive policy directives as the Prime Minister's advisor, stressing that resolving southern border issues is a joint responsibility of all parties. He believes Malaysia is ready to collaborate on economic development in the area and emphasized the government's commitment to combating drug trafficking.

At 14:35 on 23 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at the Government House, Wan Muhamad Nor Matha, advisor to the Prime Minister, said before meeting the Prime Minister that he was there to report and receive policy guidance, and to thank him for inspecting the southern provinces. Addressing unrest in the region is everyone’s duty—not just his alone—including the Ministry of Education, local MPs, all agencies, and administrative authorities, especially the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC), where he assists in regional development. Without peace and security, development is difficult, and investment and tourism will not flourish.

Wan Muhamad Nor stated that they must follow the royal wishes and initiatives of King Rama IX. The Prime Minister also emphasized that they must adhere to the King's guidance to understand, reach out, and develop the region, which is the best approach to resolving southern border issues.

When asked if the National Security Council's plan to involve Malaysia in economic development would help solve the problems, Wan Muhamad Nor said Malaysia is a neighbor with few conflicts and is willing to cooperate if asked for assistance.

Wan Muhamad Nor mentioned that one issue he raised, which the Prime Minister is fully addressing as a key government policy, is tackling the widespread drug problem that is expanding toward Malaysia. He wants assurance that drugs will not flow into Malaysia, as that would create problems for them. He believes a critical challenge for this government is to solve the drug issue because it harms the people and economy and damages the confidence of neighboring countries.
