Bangkok residents should mark their calendars for the 2026 Bangkok governor election and know when to vote, as the current governor's term ends on 21 May 2026.
As of 7 May 2026, it is confirmed that Governor Chadchart Sitthiphan's four-year term as Bangkok governor will end on 21 May 2026.
The Election Commission has approved the plan to hold elections for the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, Bangkok governor, Pattaya City Council, and Pattaya Mayor simultaneously to comply with the Local Council or Local Executive Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019) and its amendments, Section 12. The candidate registration period is from 28 May to 1 June 2026, and the election day is Sunday, 28 June 2026, from 08:00 to 17:00.
(1) Must be a Thai national by birth.
(2) Must be at least 35 years old on election day.
(3) Must have been registered as a resident in Bangkok continuously for at least one year as of the registration date.
(4) Must have at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
(5) Must not possess any disqualifications prohibiting candidacy as specified in Section 50 of the Local Council or Local Executive Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019).
2.2 Candidate registration fee for Bangkok governor election.
The fee is 50,000 baht.
3. Required documents for Bangkok Metropolitan Council and Bangkok governor candidacy:
(1) Election application form according to form Ph.Th. 4/1.
(2) Ten clear, front-facing photos without a hat, approximately 8.5 cm wide by 13.5 cm tall, matching the candidate's appearance.
(3) Identification card with one copy.
(4) Household registration certificate of the head of household with one copy.
(5) Medical certificate not older than one month.
(6) Education certificates confirming at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent (for governor candidates only).
(7) Proof of personal income tax payment for three consecutive years up to the election year (2022, 2023, 2024), or if exempt, a written declaration explaining the exemption per form Ph.Th. 4/2, as required by Section 51 of the Local Council or Local Executive Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019).
(8) Other necessary documents, such as legal name change certificates, birth certificates, proof of birth, residency evidence, with one copy each.
4. Candidate registration procedure.
Candidates must submit their application, supporting documents, and registration fee to the local election director of Bangkok. They must also provide proof of personal income tax payment for three consecutive years up to the election year, or if exempt, a written declaration with reasons for exemption.

Registering knowing one lacks qualifications or is disqualified is punishable under Section 120, which states that anyone who knowingly registers without qualifications or with disqualifications faces imprisonment from 1 to 10 years, fines from 20,000 to 200,000 baht, and disqualification from voting rights for 20 years.
