The Parliamentary Committee on Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation discussed its work framework for adapting to the AI era and new competitive landscape, highlighting that the key question today is not only “Where will Thailand stand?” but also “Where will Thai people stand in the future world?”
On 21 May 2026 at 14:30, Mrs. Thitima Chaisaeng, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of the House of Representatives, announced after the committee meeting the initial work framework under the context of a rapidly changing world, including AI, technology, and global economic competition.
Mrs. Thitima stated that the meeting agreed the important question today is not just “Where will Thailand be in the future world?” but also “Where will Thai people be in the future world?” The committee therefore recommended studying how higher education, science, research, and innovation can enhance the country's competitiveness, increase its GDP, and improve citizens’ quality of life. At the same time, the study will explore how Thailand can utilize AI, technology, research, and innovation to create new opportunities, reduce weaknesses or limitations, and prepare Thai people to adapt and compete in the future world.
The committee chairperson added that the meeting also agreed that modern national development must be viewed as an ecosystem, where all components are interconnected—including universities, research, government, private sector, technology, workforce, and the public—to translate knowledge into real economic benefits and improved quality of life. The committee will focus on listening to and studying the overall national picture from government, private sector, universities, research agencies, and civil society to identify strengths, weaknesses, and gaps before making policy recommendations.
Mrs. Thitima further stated that even if the country possesses advanced technology, AI, or high-level research, if these cannot create opportunities, increase income, and elevate the quality of life for all citizens fairly, it remains a matter for society to study and consider. The committee will carry out studies, seek facts, and listen to opinions from all sectors to support consideration and formulation of relevant proposals going forward.
