Mark Leads Campaign for Capital Governor Confident Anucha Is Bangkok Peoples Choice

The Democrat Party is setting its flag to fight for the capital governor seat. "Abhisit" has declared full support for "Anucha," undeterred by internal rivals or former members joining the competition.

On 22 May 2026 at the Democrat Party headquarters, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva spoke about preparations for the Bangkok governor election campaign under the "Bangkok, the City of Angels and More" campaign. Besides introducing Anucha Burapachaisri as the party's representative, the party has systematically prepared strategies including a development policy package for the capital and mechanisms for cooperation between the Bangkok governor and prospective Bangkok council members (50 districts).

Abhisit added that going forward, the party will present its policies more clearly and intensively to the public. The party believes Bangkok residents deserve better opportunities and more choices. Regarding the timeline for unveiling the executive team and deputy governor candidates, the party will evaluate and decide based on appropriate political timing and circumstances.

When asked about a poll showing Bangkok residents want council members who deeply understand local issues, coordinate well, and provide quick solutions, the Democrat leader said this aligns with the party's main strengths. They have highly experienced personnel, including former council members and young members who have closely followed local areas for a long time. The party has a solid foundation and is fully prepared, giving utmost attention to Bangkok's issues since its early days.

Asked about the election challenges given that some candidates include former governors and ex-Democrat members (alumni) who have split off to run for the capital governor seat, Abhisit said having many old and new candidates competing is positive. It provides Bangkok residents with more diverse options for deciding the capital's future, which aligns with democratic principles and processes.
