Parliament Schedules May 28 Meeting to Urgently Consider Transferring Chonnapat to DSI for Investigation

Parliament has scheduled an urgent meeting on 28 May to consider sending Chonnapat Naksua for questioning by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in a case involving illegal online gambling connected to transnational organized crime.

On 23 May 2026, reporters at the Parliament reported that in the House of Representatives meeting on 28 May, a key agenda item is the urgent matter of requesting parliamentary permission under Article 125 of the Constitution to summon Mr. Chonnapat Naksua, an MP from Songkhla representing the Kla Party, to acknowledge charges and be interrogated during the parliamentary session. This follows the DSI's urgent letter to the Speaker, signed by Pol. Col. Yuthana Praedam, Director-General of the DSI, dated 16 May 2026, requesting permission to summon Mr. Chonnapat for questioning regarding unauthorized electronic online gambling under the Special Case Investigation Act B.E. 2547 (2004). This involves offenses committed outside the Kingdom of Thailand. The Attorney General has assigned the DSI investigators to proceed with the investigation and press charges against suspects involved in organized crime and conspiracy to be part of a transnational criminal organization. Therefore, the DSI has formally requested the House of Representatives' permission under Article 125 of the Constitution, as the parliamentary session is ongoing, to allow the DSI to summon Mr. Chonnapat for acknowledging charges and interrogation. Since MPs have privileges during parliamentary sessions, any detention or investigation must have prior parliamentary approval.
