Phonphum urges all parties to build constructive politics, expressing concern that the political environment tends to focus on personal attacks rather than discussing achievements or solutions. He believes that those who work diligently deserve support rather than being undermined.
On 9 June 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Phonphum Wipatikumprathet, former Bangkok MP and leader of a workers' group, spoke about the intensifying atmosphere of the Bangkok gubernatorial and city council elections. He said that criticism and scrutiny are normal in a democratic system, but all parties should work together to maintain a constructive political atmosphere so that political competition benefits the public and the city's development.
Mr. Phonphum stated that anything beneficial to the public and well-executed should receive support and be further developed. Meanwhile, areas with shortcomings should be constructively suggested for improvement rather than causing political conflict or aiming to destroy each other.
“Constructive politics does not mean avoiding criticism, but rather criticizing to improve, not to bring down. Good aspects should be supported, and areas needing improvement should have solutions proposed. The ultimate goal of politics is not the victory of one side but the benefit of the people,” Mr. Phonphum said.
He also pointed out that a worrying trend is politics focusing on attacking individuals more than discussing their achievements or problem-solving approaches, which might discourage those who sincerely work for the public good.
“If those dedicated to working for the public are attacked to the point of losing motivation and unwilling to continue, ultimately, the people suffer the most because they need individuals who can genuinely solve problems and improve quality of life.”
Mr. Phonphum added that, in the end, the public will decide for themselves who has achievements, who can solve problems, and who works sincerely for the community.
“I have always believed that those who work sincerely for the people deserve encouragement rather than having their morale destroyed. Constructive politics means competing based on achievements, not by creating conflicts,” he said. .
