Maresca opens up after Man City thrashes Norwich to secure sixth consecutive win
Taking it one game at a time! Maresca remains grounded despite leading Man City to six straight victories
Enzo Maresca, manager of the "Sky Blues" Manchester City, confirmed that he approaches the team’s progress on a game-by-game basis. After recently defeating the "Canaries" Norwich City 5-0 at home to advance to the fourth round (round of 16) of the 2026-27 English Carabao Cup, he has led the team to six consecutive wins across all competitions.
When asked if he expected to start the season this strongly, Maresca said, "Not at all. The reason is I've said many times that I don’t look beyond one week because I know that in our work, many things can change every week."
"At the start of the season, I didn’t think about where we’d be after six or seven games. From day one, I only focused on Arsenal (Community Shield), then Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Coventry, Porto, Manchester United, and Norwich. Tonight, we're happy for many reasons, and now we're thinking about the next match against Sunderland."
Additionally, Maresca praised Floyd Samba for an impressive debut with the senior team. The 17-year-old scored two goals in the win over Norwich City.
"I'm pleased not only because he scored twice but also due to his overall performance. He played very well. He hadn’t played as a center forward for several games, but we decided to try him in that position in the past few days."
"I asked him three or four days ago after deciding to play him as a center forward if he had ever played that role before. He said he had never played in that position! He finished very well, so I think this was a good game for him."
"He’s certainly not a natural center forward, but he performed well. He's young, full of energy, strong, finishes well, makes good decisions, and passed effectively to teammates several times."
"So, I am happy, but I also recognize they are still young, and we need to develop them gradually, step by step."
