MMA Association Cuts Ties with Amnat After Second Drunken Outburst Leads to Police Arrest

MMA confirms it no longer associates with Amnat, stating it had already given him a chance.

On 1 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Pol. Lt. Col. Kittithara Janjaeng, Prevention and Suppression Inspector of Sriracha Police Station, received a report that a man, a former famous boxer, was drunk and causing a disturbance in front of a convenience store on Sriracha–Nongkho Road, Village No. 8, Surasak Subdistrict, Sriracha District, Chonburi Province. Police immediately dispatched patrol officers to investigate.

They found the suspect, Mr. Amnat Ruenreung, a former Thai national amateur boxer and former IBF flyweight (112-pound) world champion, sitting at a local restaurant in an intoxicated state.

There was a bottle of liquor on the table, and he kept drinking while loudly shouting and disturbing the public. Police tried to calmly persuade Amnat for a long time without success. Taking advantage of a moment when he was inattentive, they safely restrained him with handcuffs and took him to the investigator for legal proceedings.

Local residents told police that Amnat often sits in front of this convenience store and frequently shouts insults or causes disturbances to neighbors. They urged relevant authorities to take action, as many feel fearful and worried about possible unexpected incidents in the future.

Previously, after Amnat’s drunken outburst and attempts to harm locals, he asked for a chance to reform. The Mixed Martial Arts Association of Thailand (MMA) officially invited Amnat to join the association, assigning him to help develop punching and footwork skills for Thai national MMA athletes preparing for the Asian Youth Games and SEA Games.

Recently, Dr. Sirichet Poonthipayanon, president of the Mixed Martial Arts Association of Thailand, confirmed that the association is no longer connected with Amnat following these incidents.

“I confirm that MMA is no longer involved with Amnat. I already gave him a chance, but since he has chosen his own path, there’s no going back to how it was. Previously, the court gave him a suspended sentence, but since he repeated the same drunken disruptive behavior, this time he will likely face jail time.”
