The Thai women's futsal team fought with all their might but lost to Colombia, missing out on advancing in the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup.
On 28 November 2025, at the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup 2025 held in the Philippines—the first edition of this tournament—the Thai women's futsal team, ranked 4th in the world, played their final Group B match against Colombia, ranked 8th globally.
In this match, Thailand's women's futsal team faced a decisive battle against Colombia, both holding 3 points from their first two matches. Spain led the group with 6 points after winning both games and had already advanced as Group B champions, while Canada, with zero points, was the first team eliminated.
In the first half, at 4 minutes, Colombia took the lead 1-0 with a goal from Diana Celis. Then at 8 minutes, Colombia scored again from a free kick that deflected off a block, landing to Merlin Salcedo who scored to extend the lead to 2-0.
At 11 minutes, the Thai women's futsal team pulled one back to make it 1-2, following a quick one-two pass between Areeya Saeteun and Natthamon Ajkla, with the latter scoring into an open net.
In the second half, at 23 minutes, Colombia increased their lead to 3-1 when Merlin Salcedo recovered the ball and shot with her right foot, narrowly hitting the far post.
Late in the game, Thailand switched tactics to a power play, but at 35 minutes they lost possession mid-court, allowing Danna Rodriguez to score a long-range counterattack goal for Colombia, making it 4-1.
The match ended with Colombia winning 4-1, bringing their total to 6 points and securing a place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup. Meanwhile, Thailand remained with 3 points and regrettably missed the chance to make history by advancing to the knockout stage for the first time.
