KBU SPORT POLL Reports Public Opinion Survey on Bangkok Youth Olympic Phenomenon 2030

KBU SPORT POLL reports the results of a public opinion survey on the 'Bangkok Youth Olympic Phenomenon 2030.'','tags':['survey','Youth Olympic','public opinion']


Following the Cabinet's decision not to approve Thailand as the host for the 2030 Youth Olympic Games due to economic challenges, despite preparations reaching the final stage of consideration by the International Olympic Committee, KBU SPORT POLL, led by the Human Capital Development Innovation Center at Kasem Bundit University in collaboration with the Institute of Sports Management for Sports Organizations (WISDOM) and the B Bangpakong page, conducted a public opinion survey titled 'Bangkok Youth Olympic Phenomenon 2030.' The survey was carried out online and via telephone interviews from 6 to 8 May 2026, sampling 1,219 citizens aged 18 and over from all regions of the country. The sample comprised 704 men (57.75%), 417 women (34.20%), and 98 individuals identifying as LGBTQIA+ (8.03%). Regarding the government's cancellation of hosting the 2030 Youth Olympic Games, 55.10% of respondents expressed regret, 28.90% did not regret it, 10.20% were indifferent, and 3.80% chose not to comment.','tags':['public opinion','government decision','Youth Olympic']


As a result of the government's withdrawal from hosting, 28.50% of respondents believe the country lost an opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities and readiness; 25.00% said athletes and youth lost a chance to showcase their talents in relevant dimensions; 23.11% felt that international confidence in Thailand's ability to bid for future international sports events has diminished; 19.90% cited lost revenue and added value; and 3.49% noted other impacts.','tags':['opportunity loss','sports','international confidence','economy']


Regarding the benefits if Thailand had hosted the event, 27.00% believed it would elevate the country's international image; 23.10% highlighted economic stimulation through tourism and job creation; 22.65% noted increased awareness among youth and the public; 14.50% mentioned international recognition; 10.70% cited development and modernization of infrastructure and related aspects; and 2.05% indicated other benefits.','tags':['benefits','international image','economy','infrastructure','youth']

The phenomenon of Thailand missing a significant opportunity due to the current Cabinet's decision can be traced back to the government's original approval and the dedicated efforts of the working team who had aimed to bid for hosting this sports event since 2010.
