An introduction The “Green Flag” project Helps farmers obtain quality fertilizer at reasonable prices, reducing production costs. Recently, the Ministry of Finance is preparing to use this to assist farmers in reducing the impact of "high oil prices"
A reporter stated that after Mr. Lawaron Saengsnit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, revealed that today the Cabinet approved relief measures proposed by the Ministry of Finance. These measures are urgent and must be implemented quickly for the benefit of the people. The plan includes seven items, one of which is assistance for the agricultural sector through the Green Flag Project, supporting fertilizer costs alongside the Good Soil Card, to reduce expenses for farmers and promote the use of organic or alternative fertilizers to decrease imports.
Regarding production cost reduction, the Ministry of Commerce is preparing to launch the “Green Flag Plus Fertilizer” project, offering a 200 baht discount per sack of chemical fertilizer, up to five sacks, with additional benefits through the Good Soil Card, including organic fertilizer coupons that can reduce expenses by up to 1,400 baht per person. This proposal will be presented at a special Cabinet meeting today.
Ms. Kanittha Kangsawanich, Inspector General and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce, also mentioned assistance for farmers, especially dry-season rice growers, through a key measure: the 2026 Dry-Season Paddy Absorption Project, starting April 1, 2026. It aims to absorb 1 million tons of output, purchasing at prices 300 baht higher per ton than the market, piloted in five main provinces: Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kamphaeng Phet, and Sukhothai.
Additionally, preparations are underway to organize a “Paddy Market Fair” between March and May, providing a direct sales channel for farmers. It is expected to raise rice prices by 200-400 baht per ton above the market average and reduce transportation costs.
Regarding the “Green Flag” project, it originated from farmers’ feedback. The Ministry of Commerce had implemented the Blue Flag project to sell consumer goods at low prices, leading to requests for a program to help reduce production costs for both crops and livestock. Major fertilizer producers and trade associations collaborated to support quality products at reasonable prices.
Private sector and retail stores also joined, including the Thai Fertilizer and Agricultural Business Association, the Thai Fertilizer Producers Association, the Thai Agricultural Business Association, the Thai Agricultural Innovation Trade Association, and various retailers.
Previously, the Ministry of Commerce aimed to expand the “Affordable Green Flag” events nationwide, covering both crop and livestock products, with a concept to grant fair access to production inputs based on farm size and advise planting crops demanded by the market. Thus, this project not only reduces costs but also creates sustainable opportunities for Thai farmers to access quality production inputs.
