A historic achievement The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has approved Thailand to export "cooked pork blood" products becoming the first country worldwide after a suspension lasting more than 28 years
Dr. Somchuan Rattanamangkalanon, Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, revealed that on 1 April 2026, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) issued a letter approving Thailand to export heat-treated pork blood products to Singapore immediately. This success is a testament to the proactive efforts of the Department of Livestock Development in elevating food production standards (GHPs) and maintaining a robust disease control system recognized internationally.
This achievement began with a rigorous inspection when the SFA delegation visited a pig slaughterhouse in Chachoengsao province on 24 June 2025. The evaluation confirmed that Thailand's production system, storage processes, and pork blood processing meet high hygiene and safety standards (Premium Quality & Safety) fully aligned with Singapore's strict requirements. Consequently, Thailand was authorized to export heat-treated pork blood products to Singapore immediately.
Thailand is the first country in the world to regain access to Singapore's cooked pork blood product market after imports were suspended since 1998 due to the Nipah virus outbreak. This market reopening marks a significant step in restoring and expanding trade opportunities, with export value of Thai pork products expected to increase by more than 150 million baht in 2026.
Dr. Somchuan added that Singapore, known for its stringent food safety standards among the world's highest, endorsing Thailand sends a positive signal to markets worldwide. The Department of Livestock Development is committed to collaborating with the private sector to maintain standards and continuously expand the Thai livestock product market, thereby strengthening economic stability and sustainably enhancing the country's competitiveness.
