Chiang Mai province is preparing to promote sales of "off-season rice and mangoes," important economic crops of Chiang Mai, to the market during May to June.
On 28 April 2026, reporters reported that in Meeting Room 3, 3rd floor, Administration Building, Chiang Mai Provincial Hall, Mr. Boonlue Thamthanaruk, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai, chaired the monthly meeting of heads of provincial government offices and the Chiang Mai Provincial Committee for April 2026. Attendees included government officials, district chiefs, and representatives from various agencies.
At the meeting, the Chiang Mai Provincial Agriculture Office reported on the production status of key economic crops of the province set to enter the market in May, namely off-season rice and mangoes, which will be marketed later than in other provinces. It is expected that in May, off-season rice production reaching 90,000 tons and mangoes up to 25,000 tons will be available. They also anticipate harvesting costs may rise due to increased fuel prices, which could impact product prices.
Meanwhile, the Chiang Mai Provincial Commerce Office outlined plans to promote sales and distribution of off-season rice by organizing a paddy rice market at the San Sai Agricultural Cooperative in San Sai district from 20-22 May 2026. This aims to expand sales channels and reduce transportation costs for farmers.
At the same time, they are supporting the Ministry of Commerce's policy to implement a paddy rice absorption project, which will open purchase points through rice mills and agricultural cooperatives at prices higher than the market. This initiative is currently underway.
Regarding the promotion of mango sales, another key product of Chiang Mai that enters the market later than other provinces, the Chiang Mai Provincial Commerce Office has planned to distribute a total of 5,000 tons of mangoes beyond 100 kilometers from the production areas.
Additionally, sales channels will be expanded through setting up points in modern trade department stores, increasing online ordering options, and linking distribution to various provinces with pre-orders. This aims to increase market opportunities and help meet consumer demand adequately.
