
Deputy Agriculture Minister Watcharapol Khawkhum visited Nong Bua Lamphu Province to monitor agricultural development and promote water management projects aiding farmers affected by floods and droughts.
On 25 May, reporters reported that Mr. Watcharapol Khawkhum, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, accompanied by his team, traveled to Sribunruang Wittayakarn School in Mueang Mai Subdistrict, Sribunruang District, Nong Bua Lamphu Province. The visit was to monitor the progress of agricultural and cooperative initiatives and to listen to problems and suggestions from the local people. The delegation included Mr. Suriyaphon Nuchanong, Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, Mr. Songpol Suaysom, Deputy Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, along with executives and relevant officials.
On this occasion, the Royal Irrigation Department presented plans for constructing the Ban Chom Thong water gate project in Sribunruang Subdistrict to resolve recurring flood and drought problems in the upper Lam Phong River Basin area, part 2. This project aims to enhance water management efficiency by allowing water drainage during the rainy season and water storage for use in the dry season. It will support approximately 1,000 rai of rainy season cultivation and 800 rai during the dry season, as well as provide water for consumption to two villages, benefiting 436 households. This will improve quality of life and create sustainable water security for the community.
Further reports state that afterward, Mr. Watcharapol and his team distributed agricultural inputs and visited an exhibition of agricultural and cooperative achievements in Nong Bua Lamphu Province. The exhibition highlighted value-added agriculture and model agricultural processed products developed using knowledge, technology, and innovation to enhance product value, generate income, and strengthen farmers and communities sustainably.
