Minister Suriya Orders Vigilance for Heavy Rain from 8-14 June Nationwide Dams Ready for Intense Rainfall

Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, has ordered vigilance for heavy rain during 8 to 14 June 2026. He instructed the Royal Irrigation Department to mobilize machinery and equipment to continuously assist people in affected areas.

Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Suriya Jungrungreangkit reported on the water situation from the Royal Irrigation Department's Smart Water Operation Center (SWOC) that currently, large and medium reservoirs nationwide hold a total of 42,977 million cubic meters of water, representing 56 percent of total reservoir capacity, and can still accommodate another 33,777 million cubic meters, or 44 percent of total storage capacity.

Regarding the four main reservoirs in the Chao Phraya River basin—Bhumibol, Sirikit, Kwae Noi Bamrung Dan, and Pa Sak Jolasid dams—they currently hold a combined total of 13,123 million cubic meters of water, equivalent to 53 percent of their total combined capacity.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department forecasts that from 8 to 14 June 2026, Thailand will experience heavy rain in some areas and very heavy rain in parts of the North and upper Northeast. This is due to a fairly strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a monsoon trough extending across Myanmar, upper Northern Thailand, and upper Laos into a low-pressure area over Vietnam.

Citizens living in low-lying areas, foothills, and near waterways are urged to closely monitor the situation as flash floods, forest runoff, and river overflows may occur in some locations, especially where heavy rain persists for several days.

The minister has ordered the Royal Irrigation Department to mobilize machinery, equipment, and personnel to assist people continuously affected by the heavy rain, in line with established water management policies.

Additionally, authorities are instructed to closely monitor weather and water conditions, integrate data from all sectors to analyze and plan water management accordingly, implement the nine flood season preparedness measures approved by the National Water Resources Committee (NWRC) strictly, and prepare pumps, machinery, equipment, and staff in all risk areas nationwide to provide timely assistance to citizens when situations arise.
