Sweet Santol, a Specialty of Lopburi Province, GI-Certified Fruit Ready for Market

The festival "Sweet Santol" is a specialty of Lopburi City, featuring GI-certified fruit that helps generate income for farmers and is preparing to enter the market.

On 14 June 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that santol, a famous fruit of Lopburi Province, has received Geographical Indication (GI) certification—a mark issued by the Department of Intellectual Property to certify that the product originates from specific production areas within three subdistricts of Mueang Lopburi District.

This area has a unique geography known as 'Nam Lai San Mun' soil, located near the Lopburi River, making it ideal for santol cultivation. The total cultivation area exceeds 600 rai, spread among farmers in Pho Kao Ton, Talung, and Ngio subdistricts, where many orchard farmers grow santol.

Additionally, Lopburi's specialty includes five santol varieties: Pui Fai, Ila, Thapthim, Nimnuan, and Kamayoi. The sweet santol harvest season, unique to Lopburi, occurs annually from May to August. During this period, santol farmers sell their produce along the roads by the Lopburi canal embankment near Ban Phraek, spanning the three subdistricts, as well as in front of the Mueang Lopburi District Office.

This year, santol production is expected to reach about 460 tons, exceeding last year's output and significantly increasing income for santol farmers. Prices range from 25 to 80 baht per kilogram. The peak harvest period in June has prompted Lopburi Province, through Talung Subdistrict, to organize the Sweet Santol Festival, a showcase of Lopburi's prized fruit.

The festival will take place from 24 June to 5 July 2026 GMT+7 at the grounds of the Mueang Lopburi District Office. The event will feature sales of OTOP products, agricultural goods, a variety of foods, processed santol products, cooking demonstrations of sweet and savory dishes made from santol, and importantly, santol farmers selling their fruit directly at special prices.
