Recently, Hun Sen of Cambodia posted to promote Koh Rong island. The issue sparked debate in Thailand because Hun Sen used the phrase "Welcome to the" in his promotion.Land of Smiles.WhichLand of Smilesis globally recognized as referring to Thailand, the Land of Smiles. Bum Panadda Wongpudee revealed to Thairath Entertainment that
"We also say Welcome to Thailand. Thailand is all the best. We have all the bestthingsto welcome youall over the world, transportation, facilities, accommodation and thetrue Land of Smiles, and welcome to Thailand."
Hun Sen just posted it. Maybe he's lonely and has nothing else to do lately, so he's trying to promote tourism here and there, but below the post, the border issues were heavily criticized.
He must be trying. You have to understand that Cambodia right now, if income doesn't come from scammers, they have to find other means. So it's not surprising Hun Sen posted like this.
He obviously doesn't think things through, never really thinks. That's how it is. At every opportunity, he looks to see what Thailand is doing, wanting to be Thailand so badly. But copying is still copying.
This is the responsibility of Thai authorities—the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. They must do something to establish Thailand's identity. We already have great things; we just need to present them well. It's not right to do nothing and let them spread fake news. When foreigners search, the top results come up, but they don't know what is truly original. It's the government's duty to fight back, to reclaim our good things, just like soldiers fight to reclaim our territory.
As for Koh Rong, from what I know, the images look beautiful, but due tofacilities, transportation, and other factors, it is not as convenient as in Thailand. Most importantly, we're concerned that if we go there, we might end up staying somewhere else. Who can guarantee safety? Recently, on Chinese social media, people posted about promotional efforts inviting tourists to Cambodia to enjoy water splashing festivals imitating Thailand, but they also warned about the lack of safety and increased risk of falling into scams. Therefore, travel is not guaranteed safe. Though the pictures look beautiful, the journey is another matter. They have a big airport, but how to get from the airport there is uncertain.
