Here's an update on Dee Nitipong Honark. On 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7, he gave an interview to the media, revealing that the Chalieng band is about to reunite for a major concert after a long absence. He also shared his views on the ongoing energy crisis as follows.
How are you adapting in this situation?
Dee said: "I don't want anyone to panic. The worst thing is panic itself. It leads to competition and if people stop spending altogether, vendors lose income. Right now, I live normally, but if I need to travel or shop, I’m more cautious. Don’t be overly afraid. Many posts on social media are like this, but most are overly pessimistic."
Don’t be too pessimistic?
Dee said: "Of course, we eat what we can. We eat enough and are satisfied, but we must watch the situation. Before, I used to eat extravagantly; now I’ve scaled back a bit."
Have you experienced any effects from the oil situation?
Dee said: "No, because I live in Bangkok and don’t have to compete for diesel. I don’t go out much; I’m older now. I don’t feel much impact. No one can help us much except some divine intervention, which probably won’t happen."
Are vendors affected?
Dee said: "Yes, because people are so afraid they stop spending. If fear causes everyone to freeze, it will only get worse."
When do you think the situation will improve?
Dee said: "From what I hear, both sides are backing down. There’s a chance to reopen the Strait of Hormuz narrow channel and gradually send oil shipments. Everything will start to improve. People’s shock will lessen, but it will take time."
