A dazzling spectacle worth the wait with the film “The Miracle of Wan Thong” (In The Name of Love). After releasing character posters, the buzz has spread widely across social media. This is the first production from Black Dragon Entertainment, led by Julian Jeong, CEO of Black Dragon Entertainment Co., Ltd., who has previously produced acclaimed international films and series such as Snowpiercer and The Admiral: Roaring Currents. He serves as producer for this film, which is directed by the talented Muk-Piyakan Butprasert, known for "Long Live Love!", who brings a fresh version of Wan Thong’s story to the screen.
When love ends in death, Wan Thong refuses to surrender to a toxic fate anymore! Recently, “The Miracle of Wan Thong” unveiled its main poster featuring a star-studded cast led by Ink-Waranthorn Paonil, Mark-Prin Suparat, and Gulf-Kanawut Traipipattanapong, joined by Primmy-Wiphawee Patnasiri and Fay-Patr Aeksangkul. Ink has acted in films and series before, but this is a leading role where the entire story is told through her character, a very demanding role as the protagonist narrating her life.
Ink-Waranthorn, playing Wan Thong, said, “I portray both Wan Thong and Pimlada, which is completely different from what I have known all my life. This version offers a perspective we've never seen before. The more we workshop and read the script, the more I fell in love with this character. Every time I put on this costume and step into her role, I understand the reasons behind her decisions and actions. Anyone familiar with Pimila Lai or Wan Thong might feel the same as I do. I believe everyone will gain a new perspective, as the story is usually told through the eyes of outsiders like Khun Chang and Khun Phan. But from Wan Thong’s point of view, I think no one has interpreted or told her story in the context of society back then. This makes it different, even though it’s the same story.”
Mark-Prin, portraying Khun Phan, said, “Khun Phan’s character is divided into two parts: the past as a warrior fighting to build his reputation and falling in love with Wan Thong, and the present as a politician named Plan. I chose this role because the script is very interesting. This is a new interpretation, and I wanted to challenge myself by showing the true inner life of Khun Phan. Some people might only see him as a womanizer, but in reality, he’s an ordinary man with feelings and a heart.”
Gulf-Kanawut, playing Khun Chang, revealed, “Khun Chang’s character is a devoted lover of Wan Thong, a man lacking self-confidence, not very different from the previous versions. Previously, Khun Chang’s physical appearance might have caused him to feel insecure, but what differs this time are his hairstyle, physique, and facial features. The past image of Khun Chang was a chubby, balding, and selfish man. Initially, I was unsure about the character, but as I read the script, I realized this Khun Chang has been given a makeover, making the role more interesting and enjoyable.”
Primmy-Wiphawee, playing Sai Thong, said, “I decided to join this project because I liked the script and the story of Wan Thong, especially the character of Sai Thong. This is a character I’ve never played before, with a lot of conflict and layers, which made me interested in exploring her. I learned about Ayutthaya’s culture from the past, something I had never studied before, so this was a great opportunity to learn new things, especially about this character.”
Fay-Patr, portraying Jan Son, said, “Jan Son is a fun character with a lot to explore. Just knowing the character makes it an exciting role. The character is playful and versatile, which is very enjoyable. I never thought I’d get a role like this. It’s new for me and my first period piece. Just dressing up in these costumes is fun. Jan Son’s clothes and character show someone who hoards possessions, like a thief who keeps everything, messy and dirty.”
Rewriting the fate of Wan Thong’s love and making new history through the vision of the director of "Long Live Love!" and producer of Snowpiercer, “The Miracle of Wan Thong” will be released in cinemas nationwide on 3 September.
