The atmosphere was filled with touching moments at the gala premiere of the film "LAAM: The Thai Interpreter," a Thai movie based on the true story of Benjawan Poomsan, a Thai interpreter who uses the "power of language" as a bridge to connect hope, understanding, and opportunities for Thai people abroad through her work experience in the United States. The event was well attended by actors, production teams, artists, entertainers, and members of the media at the EmQuartier CineArt Theater, 4th floor, EmQuartier Shopping Mall, Bangkok.
This film is not just about an "interpreter" but portrays the life of an ordinary woman who uses language as a tool to foster understanding and assist people during critical moments in life. It deeply and movingly reflects issues concerning Thai labor, human rights, and the value of cross-cultural communication.
The event was honored by Dr. Veerasak Kowsurat, former Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Federation of National Film Associations, and Khun Supajee Suthamphan, Chair of the Advisory Committee to the Deputy Prime Minister and Board Member and Executive of the Asa Phuean Phueng Foundation (Under the Patronage of the Red Cross), who co-chaired the opening ceremony. Benjawan Poomsan (Teacher Ae), the real-life inspiration for the film, shared her perspectives and hopes that the film would raise awareness and benefit Thai society.
Also present were director and producer Christopher Gorsch and the lead cast, including Sakulkan Prairie Pipopmongkol (Prairie), who plays "Laddawan," Heen Sasithorn Panichnok, Sitthikorn Kanya Jai (Sergeant O), Kesinee Manee-in, Ern Kalyakorn Kanjanaset, and Thailand consultant Khun Arunsak Onglao. They discussed behind-the-scenes insights and the inspiration behind bringing this valuable story to the big screen.
The event was attended by representatives from government and private sectors, notable figures in the film industry, artists, actors, influencers, and media, all witnessing the launch of another highly anticipated Thai film expected to generate widespread discussion during the National Mother's Day festival.
"LAAM: The Thai Interpreter" is scheduled for nationwide release on 12 August 2026, National Mother's Day, carrying the moving message, "When words become walls... interpreters become bridges."
