Mitski Presents Single and Music Video I’ll Change for You Alongside Global Tour Announcement

“A powerful and elegant single,” said The New York Times about the single “Where’s My Phone?”.

“As a songwriter, Mitski uniquely harnesses the feeling of surrendering to fate... but her most powerful moments often come when she lets us journey with her beyond her breaking point,” Pitchfork said.

“Mitski perfectly captures the spirit of the times in the song [‘Where’s My Phone?’],” according to NYLON.

“‘Where’s My Phone?’ feels raw and unpolished, as if it grew straight from the earth,” said FADER.

“Nothing’s About to Happen to Me is a brave new album that brings her back to her roots with guitar-driven songs and straightforward lyrics,” Bandcamp stated.

Mitski presents “I’ll Change for You,” the second single from her upcoming album Nothing's About to Happen to Me, due for release on 27 February 2024 under Dead Oceans, alongside the announcement of a worldwide tour.

Variety described Mitski’s live performances as “a captivating study in movement.” The Philadelphia Inquirer praised her shows as “stylish, highly creative, and effortlessly cool,” while The Guardian called them “unique, mysterious, and deeply engaging.”

Mitski will present Nothing’s About to Happen to Me in select cities worldwide, including six nights at The Shed in New York, five nights at Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, and four nights at the Sydney Opera House. Additional shows are scheduled in Mexico City, Istanbul, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, London, Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. General ticket sales begin on Friday, 13 February 2024, with artist presales starting Wednesday, 11 February at 10:00 local time. Details on presales for each city can be found at Mitski.com. Supporting acts will vary by city and include Sex Week, Gustaf, La Zorra Zapata, Haley Heynderickx, Maria Somerville, Tarta Relena, Gwenifer Raymond, and others.

Following the single “Where’s My Phone?”—hailed by Billboard as a “powerful indie rock track”—“I’ll Change for You” offers a mid-tempo, nostalgic feel. Mitski’s beautiful vocals are supported by a rich musical arrangement featuring strings, drums and percussion, piano, guitar, flute, and vibraphone. She sings with desperation: “‘Cause I’ll do anything // For you to love me again // If you don’t like me now // I will change for you.”

“I’ll Change for You” Video Still.

Nothing’s About to Happen to Me reveals Mitski diving into an intense narrative centered on a solitary woman living in a cluttered home. Outside, she is an outsider; inside, she is free. The music video for “I’ll Change for You,” directed by Lexie Alley and edited by Rena Johnson, extends this story into the chaotic and disorderly world of Tansy House, previously featured in Alley’s album photography. By printing each frame onto film and combining it with hand-drawn marks and unsettling distortions, the footage feels like fragile, deteriorating film reels that might be found buried under piles of books in Tansy House.

Mitski wrote all the songs and performed all the vocals on Nothing’s About to Happen to Me. The album was produced and engineered by Patrick Hyland and mastered by Bob Weston. It continues the musical style established in her 2023 album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, featuring live instrumentation from the touring band and ensemble arrangements. The orchestral recordings were made at Sunset Sound and TTG Studios, arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson, with engineering by Michael Harris.
