She explained the issue was due to a major coordination error: it was agreed she would lip-sync, but the microphone was live and she could not hear her own voice. She lamented that her reputation, image, and career were damaged.
“Regarding today’s SEA Games 2025 opening show, many people probably noticed how off-key my singing sounded live. Honestly, I feel very sad, and what happened was truly a major mistake in our work.
I was informed that the event requested me, Tong, and Golf to “lip-sync 100%” for technical reasons, making lip-syncing the best option. I understood and agreed to this. During the actual performance, my ear monitor had no live vocal feed, so I couldn’t hear myself singing, but I tried my best to sync perfectly.
What actually happened, I don’t know where the communication broke down, but my live microphone was turned on during the live broadcast. Honestly, I feel my reputation, image, dignity, career, and dreams were destroyed. Now that the show is over, I can’t do anything about it, but at least I want to use this space to explain and defend myself as best I can...
Throughout my career, I have hardly ever lip-synced. I feel very sad because if I had been given a chance to sing live—even if it was imperfect—I would have felt better since singing live is my talent. Instead, I was told to lip-sync but my mic was live while I couldn’t hear myself. If I had known I was singing live without hearing myself, I would have taken off my ear monitors or tried something to sing my best, but I never had that chance.
I’m not blaming anyone, but I ask for a chance to defend myself.
