Currently, the Thai-Cambodian border situation remains continuously violent, damaging many local households. Tragically, numerous brave soldiers and civilians have died daily. Many hope this dire situation will end soon, but quite a few are asking what caused this conflict and when a resolution will come, as the public suffers greatly and frontline soldiers have been wounded or killed.
/ Aom Sakaojai has posted a message questioning the true origin of the entire incident—why suddenly there was encroachment and provocation leading to this war.
“Respectfully to those in power, may I ask you to pause and consider: what is the real starting point and cause of the war we are facing today?” The “visible image” now is a war causing suffering and wounds to civilians and soldiers on the frontline.
Then the “invisible image,” the “real” cause of the war, what is it? Why did encroachment suddenly occur? Why the provocations? There are many “whys,” since we have coexisted like this for a long time...
She also captioned, "If we knew the 'real' starting point, we might find the 'end' faster. If it escalates, everyone will suffer."
From Aom's post, many people commented, all generally sharing the same sentiment, for example:
- Try asking Uncle Hun and niece Ing what the reason is.
- Ask Uncle, niece, and niece's father.
- You have to ask Uncle and niece.
- Ask Uncle.
- Are you living in the same world as us?
- Negotiations have been held many times but never truly end. We must have the advantage so they come to negotiate—that is a real end. We border residents won't yield this time and support the military to teach them a lesson so it ends permanently. Now, politicians’ role is to brainstorm smartly to help soldiers at the negotiation table, not forbid locals who were attacked from responding and tell them to negotiate for peace when they didn't start it.
- Because our leaders neglected the border before, and military leaders couldn't act freely. Then when we interfered with their country's business interests and built an entertainment complex causing them revenue loss, plus serious crackdowns on scammers and call centers.
- Oh, just learned that those working with politicians still can't find information on this and don't even know how bad the situation is.
- Will we let Cambodians keep encroaching and building houses on Thai land? Or let them set up a market at Sanam Luang before thinking further?
