Was it a surprise when Gen Z fans suddenly started screaming loudly?
"That day, I was shopping at Central Chidlom, and while looking for something, I heard loud screams and people saying, 'Yes, yes, go ask for a photo!' Someone called me 'uncle' (laughs). I looked around and realized there was no one else—it must have been me. When I turned to them, they ran over screaming and asked if I was the uncle from 'Across the Sky Beside You.' When I said yes, they were so excited they jumped around. Shoppers had to change lanes because the crowd blocked the way."
How did you feel? Were you confused or shocked by what happened?
"I was confused. Usually, even if they are fans, they wouldn't dare ask for autographs. Depending on the role, if the character is not likable, fans may hesitate to ask for photos or autographs. But this time, they came in groups, like a team, asking for photos."
Was your wife with you at the mall that day?
"She was, but she wandered off far ahead, so I had to wave to call her back. The kids were all gathered here, so I called her back to be with us."
Why do you think so many young fans admire you now?
"The buzz came from the BL series. I had never acted in a BL series before. It had very good ratings. It was quite surprising. Other works I’ve done didn’t generate this much attention. My Instagram went from being inactive to flooded with followers and nearly 36,000 likes."
As someone who has lived through many eras, what does this change say to you?
"Yes, it’s a big change. I never thought young people would like me. As you know, BL series focus on male-male love scenes quite a bit. I thought young people wouldn't watch me because it’s a different generation and era. But things have changed."
