This could be called a life storm for Mew Sirilapas Kongtrakarn, an actress and TV host who recently stepped down from her position as a Member of Parliament for the People's Party. Recently, Mew's mother fell victim to a scammer gang, losing more than 1.25 million baht. Mew posted a warning about the scam and asked for work to earn money for her mother and to cover her own expenses.
Mew shared a screenshot of a LINE chat between her mother and the scammers, and recounted the story in detail on her Facebook page, Sirilapas Kongtrakarn, saying, “Life storm!! Warning!! Nearly lost my mother to a scammer.”
Sequence of events:
1. On 11 Dec 2025 GMT+7, a relative called Mew's contact number to ask her to call back, saying there was something to discuss about her mother.
2. Mew called back and learned that her mother had consulted someone about money and sounded very worried.
3. Mew tried to reach her mother but couldn't. She contacted neighbors and found out her mother was at a restaurant, very stressed. Neighbors then took her mother home and revealed that she had been scammed.
4. After talking with neighbors, they handed the phone to her mother, who spoke incoherently as if mentally distressed, saying everything was gone, apologizing, and that nothing was left. Mew told her to stay calm and said she would come home right after voting. After voting, Mew hurried home and told Pharaoh that if he finished work early, to go check on her mother. Pharaoh came immediately after finishing his job.
5. When Mew arrived, neighbors were still with her mother, whose expression was very bad. They gently asked what had happened.
6. Her mother explained that she had posted a baby car seat for sale, which Mew had used for her child. Someone contacted her to buy it and transferred the payment. When her mother asked where to send the product, she was told to join a LINE group to open a store.
7. Fearing she might be accused of fraud if she received money but did not send the product, her mother joined the LINE group. The group instructed her to open an online store, register it, and try selling products and withdrawing money, claiming this was part of the sales process.
8. Although her mother did not receive a shipping address, she opened the store and registered successfully, and tried selling products. When there was an amount to withdraw, she had to attempt to make a withdrawal.
9. When attempting to withdraw funds, an error occurred, claiming the transaction failed and the store was damaged. To fix it, her mother was told she must transfer money to repair the store before withdrawing funds.
10. Her mother transferred money to repair the store and tried withdrawing again, but still could not. The scammers claimed the store must be repaired within 5-10 minutes, or the account would be frozen and unable to withdraw. Each failed transaction meant more repair fees to pay.
11. Her mother kept transferring multiple payments to repair the store, fearing she would lose the online funds. The scammers tricked her into continuing to pay until she had no money left.
12. Her mother's entire savings and personal assets were pawned to get cash to transfer to the scammer’s account, including online transfers.
Total loss amounted to 1,255,865.80 baht.
1. Mew and Pharaoh carefully explained and comforted her mother, telling her it was gone and that they would rebuild.
2. Mew asked why her mother hadn’t told her. Her mother said she saw Mew was already stressed and feared her scolding. She said it was a big problem caused solely by herself and she wanted to resolve it on her own.
3. Mew asked how her mother planned to end the problem. Her mother said she would eat at a restaurant, leave her car there, and disappear.
4. Mew asked where her mother would go and how. Her mother said after eating she would leave her car and walk to Nualchawee Bridge to end everything.
5. Mew shudders to think what might have happened if she had not returned home in time or if neighbors had not found her mother first. If she hadn’t come back in time, her mother might no longer be here as of the posting date.
6. Mew read the chats between her mother and the scammers, crying and furious at how they could do this to her mother. Her mother panicked, trying to top up money to withdraw funds, running to various banks pleading with scammers to extend the time because of long queues, fearing she couldn't transfer money in time. She became confused, skipping meals, pressured to keep transferring money until finally saying she had no money left except her life.
7. When she had no more money to transfer, the scammers sent documents threatening her with fraud accusations against the company.
Summary of events and updates:
1. Mew has filed a police report at Don Mueang Police Station and submitted documents to request freezing of the scammer's bank accounts. She thanked Don Mueang Police for accepting the case and promising to follow up promptly.
2. She used all remaining personal savings to redeem her mother's pawned gold, avoiding interest and recovering as much of her mother's assets as possible.
3. Her mother remains very stressed, so Mew stays by her side to care for her, help manage paperwork and the police report, and provide emotional support.
4. Mew feels guilty, wondering if she is a bad daughter that her mother feared telling her about the problem.
5. It’s painful that while Mew was a Member of Parliament running the “Elderly Awareness of Call Center Scams” project, educating seniors and campaigning in communities, her own family fell victim to a scam.
Mew admits she has no money left and is seeking work. She welcomes hosting jobs, product reviews, live sales, and asks anyone with opportunities to contact her.
1. Mew wants to raise money to return to her mother because the lost funds were her mother’s savings for her later life. Tracking the money is difficult, and Mew no longer expects to recover it. She wants to work to earn money to support her mother’s future.
2. Mew has also nearly depleted her own savings used to redeem her mother’s pawned items and still has monthly expenses, so she needs work to cover her own costs.
3. She is only asking for work—hosting, reviewing, or any jobs—and invites direct contact.
4. Finally, she accepts the harsh reality, though no one wants this to happen. She is fortunate not to have lost her mother and still has strength to work. Some may think a loss of just over a million baht isn’t much compared to others, but this was her mother’s lifetime savings. A million baht means different things to different people.
5. Mew believes in her skills and potential as a host and speaker, as well as other talents. She welcomes any opportunities to work.
She honestly admits that throughout her career since age 17-18, she has managed her finances well, earning her own income. Though not wealthy, she has lived comfortably and never owed or borrowed money, despite some difficulties in the past 2-3 years.
This time, Mew just wants to earn money to replace what her mother lost and will not ask for anything else—only work that allows her to support her mother.
She asks for support as she searches for work through all channels.
