Opening up for the first time about Mae Kaeo Sudarat, the mother of the beloved leading actor Nadet Kuimiya, who reveals her son's childhood life and shares little-known news that she has already made a will. She also introduces her new son live on the show "Kui Zab Show" on the One31 channel, hosted by DJ Putt Puttichai and Peggy Srithanya.
Recently, just after her son's birthday, he posted a very cute video clip.
Mae Kaeo said: "Oh... this year, or every year, I never give him gifts. I only give love, warmth, and hugs. Then he greets me and bows his head. I know he has been having his head blessed every morning. When he was a child coming home from school, that's what bonded us as mother and son. No matter how grown he is, at his age, he still raises his hands to greet and bows for me to bless his head."
How old is your son this year?
Mae Kaeo: "He's 35 now. Then I thought, oh, I’ve never played the violin to say happy birthday to him. I used to play, right? Then I thought he might not post it because he doesn't like sharing family matters much. But when I sent it, he was excited and asked to post it. I hadn’t played for years, so I had to refresh a bit. Not perfect, but it was for him."
Why does he like the violin?
Mae Kaeo: "At first, his father had a brain illness, and I believed music could help with movement therapy. Even if the brain can't fully process, the visual stimuli can help him try to imagine and smile inside. His actions express his inner feelings, even if he can't speak clearly. I believe that. So I learned violin because it's easier than guitar."
Besides the video, what birthday wishes did the mother give?
Mae Kaeo: "I wished him auspicious blessings. I asked for my son Barry Nadet Kuimiya to have happiness, success, and prosperity in all his noble possessions, be free from illness and safe, and victorious in every aspect throughout his life."
How do you feel about people praising your son as a grounded leading actor?
Mae Kaeo: "I feel happy and proud that people see the true natural side of him — a relatable leading actor. I'm glad."
How did you raise Nadet as a child compared to now?
Mae Kaeo: "I never wanted him to grow up; I wanted to freeze time to enjoy him forever, but that's impossible. However, because he is lovely—not just saying this—he has a foundation of kindness and takes care of his parents. He has shown this since he can remember. I always keep his good qualities in mind. I taught him to be attached to me first. If a mother is attached to her child, she will adore him. So the child must be attached to the mother while young, because when he grows up and has a family, they will be apart. Women still visit each other, but men don't come as often, so I told him he must only be attached to his mother."
What does that method involve, Mom?
Mae Kaeo: "Wherever he goes, we go together. Wherever the child is, the mother must be there. He did it. When he got his nails and hair done, he took things he likes—like jigsaw puzzles and Lego—to play with. He's the kind who enjoys playing alone."
Does he still cling to you now that he’s grown up?
Mae Kaeo: "He still clings in terms of food tastes and meals. Wherever we go, having me there makes him feel secure. I take him to make merit, give alms, and do charity."
Did you teach him to be reasonable and forbid lying from a young age?
Mae Kaeo: "Since we lived as just the two of us with the housekeeper and younger siblings, I told him the first thing to remember is not to lie to family. Not lying builds honesty and truthfulness. So a man must have truthfulness as the top priority. This is our family's personal principle. He said, ‘Yes, ma’am.’"
Is the secret to Nadet's handsomeness that you give him chocolate daily and he sleeps at 8 p.m.?
Mae Kaeo: "Exactly. I like to find health remedies. My parents took care of me from childhood because I wasn’t well-nourished. Grandma taught me cooking and rice preparation since I can remember. If wealthy people come to ask for it, I say I plant lemongrass and everything, so I give it to them quickly, hoping to become wealthy to feed them and earn merit. That's a true story. As for chocolate, I think we must compensate somehow. I used to be able to eat chocolate, but now not so much because of chemicals, so I consider its benefits."
Before social media existed, I asked pediatricians when I took my child to Bangkok doctors. They said if a child's brain waves are frequent, they will have excellent memory. For frequent brain waves, the child must sleep from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The child must sleep within this time and not beyond, or memory will suffer. Dark chocolate is allowed, 1-3 pieces daily is good, eaten at 7 p.m., and no sleeping after 8 p.m."
One thing noticeable about Nadet is the love he has for his parents?
Mae Kaeo: "He connects deeply with his father because his father is an idol and role model. When he gets home, he tells me, ‘Mom, I'm home.’ I can't find him, then I find him resting with Dad."
What about the inheritance will?
Mae Kaeo: "Oh... the inheritance will is about sounds, not property. At that time, Dad had begun to decline a bit, so we composed songs and sang live to each other. When the child went to work, we still took care of each other by singing live. Dad said ‘very good.’ When his mind deteriorated, I started making music because I thought music could heal the mind, whether someone is normal or not. Music is wonderful, a kind of magic. Songs heal. So I thought I had to make songs. I have made four songs and sing them to Dad; he likes them and sleeps peacefully."
We went to the studio. We had some fun songs. We added melodies and made two songs. But the third song, a traditional wedding song, I couldn't find a singer. After 4–5 months, I still hadn't found one. Then a niece who teaches at a school called me, saying there’s someone who can sing and take gigs but she’s unsure if the voice will please me and gave me a number. When I called, the voice sounded familiar. It was teacher Saman. I asked what he was doing. He said he came to find a voice, so I started searching for the voice."
Is this the new son?
Mae Kaeo: "It's a new label, my own label, which I don’t know if Nadet knows yet. It's called Siang Music label, and my new son, 'Tonkla Darun,' is the voice we were searching for."
Tonkla: "At that time, I was teaching the last class when teacher Saman called and asked if I had time to record a guide vocal for a song. I didn’t know who Mae Kaeo was then but accepted the job. When I found out, I felt honored."
Mae Kaeo: "When he sang the full song once, I was amazed and said, ‘Record it now.’ It was a song I wrote and composed myself, and he had never heard it before."
