On her Instagram @jariya.anfone, she posted images of a sofa damaged by the explosion of her nephew's power bank, which detonated within seconds after being plugged in. She also shared a photo of the damaged power bank and wrote: "This is exactly why you need to be very careful, especially when traveling by plane. Power banks or any prohibited items should not be placed in checked luggage. What you see in the photo is my nephew's power bank—not a cheap brand, but it has likely been used for a long time.
We cannot tell if the device was worn out or damaged, but when plugged in at home, it exploded and caught fire within 3-5 seconds. The leather sofa caught fire very quickly. I dread to think what might happen if someone left it charging while asleep, or when no one was home, or if people were sitting close to the device. Please tell all the kids at home, it happens very fast. This comes from my genuine concern.”
