She is a mother of three whom many admire for her family's warmth and charm. Chompoo Araya Recently, after returning from a trip to France, her daughter Abigail accompanied her to her first work engagement of the year.
When asked about her perspective on parenting in the social media era, Chompoo said she does not completely restrict her children. She explained that parenting styles vary; some families prohibit tablets and smartphones entirely. But she views social media as part of her career, a way she communicates with her followers. Therefore, she lets her children absorb how she uses social media.
Her older sons, Saifah and Payu, are growing up, so she has begun teaching them to benefit from social media without becoming its victims. Sometimes, when idle, they still pick up their phones to scroll. For example, on long car rides or at restaurants, she allows it but controls the content.
If they watch YouTube, it’s children’s content. She also checks their search histories. Regarding games on their tablets, she knows what they are and decides whether to allow them. When she denies permission, she explains why, and her children understand. She gives them some freedom but insists on sharing everything openly.
Some people question why she lets her children watch these things. She believes restricting them is not the answer. She feels that since her children have completed their responsibilities—attending classes, sports, and music practice—they deserve some personal time, though she sets limits. She acknowledges that every family is different.
She tells her children they must finish their tasks before using screens and that screen time ends when it’s bedtime. The children understand, though sometimes they resist, which is normal since even adults are attached to screens. She explains to them that what they see online, like on YouTube or social media, is content created by others—not their entire real lives. She tries to instill the value that social media is a parallel world, not actual life, helping them absorb this gradually since they are still young. She teaches them to use social media beneficially but reminds them it is not everything in life.
