After the well-known comedian Der Dok Sadao fell ill and has been undergoing treatment for some time, controversy arose when Poo Kanokwan Buranon his ex-wife tearfully revealed that Der has lived in a different world for 29 years, sparking heavy criticism. Recently, Jack Green from Thairath Entertainment interviewed Tua Raeh Chernyim, one of Der's fellow comedians, who updated on the matter.
Asked if he would offer encouragement to Uncle Der as a friend, he replied:
“Not just a friend, more like a mentor. He is a senior and one of the first generation of comedians, while I’m one of the youngest juniors. I want to encourage P' Der and wish him a speedy recovery and to overcome all obstacles.”
Was there a visit recently?
“I went to the treatment center at the hospital once. Asked if he was close to speaking again—almost, I think. I’ve seen news like that. Sometimes his daughter posts pictures for us to see. He is still receiving treatment. Comedians never abandon each other because Thai comedians hold hands and support one another. That was the slogan when I was president of the association.”
“So whatever happens depends on each person’s strength. Not everyone can be like P’ Der. It also depends on whether we have contributed to society or the industry. If you’re a comedian, don’t complain. I don’t know how far my own destiny will go, but I will keep doing good. I accept that I’m junior. I’m happy that all comedian friends keep wishing P’ Der well. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
You wish him well health-wise but won’t interfere in other matters?
“Oh, I won’t overstep. I really don’t know the truth.”
What would you like to say to fans concerned about Der? Some may view him negatively.
“Oh, don’t think for others. Focus on yourself first. You are you, and your family is your family. Listen and keep it there. Don’t create drama. Everyone has their own family. As the old saying goes, it’s not good to interfere. So let’s just stay calm, listen, and watch the situation. His family can make their own decisions.”
But you and your wife have a very strong relationship?
“Oh, what can I say? I’m a Copy A. We’ve loved each other since we tied the knot for over 40 years, maybe even longer. Loyal and devoted, working together to earn a living is enough. A happy family is all I need.”
