My exhausted body, attached to numerous tubes, seemed to react automatically, reaching out my hand, hoping just to hold and hug that man as if we hadn't seen each other for a very long time.
In the silence, no words were spoken because I was on a breathing tube; all we could do was look into each other’s eyes. Yet it felt as if we understood everything. After that, we saw each other more often and began talking until one day I left the ICU and shared a room with him for 5-6 days. That’s when I understood the meaning of ‘unconditional love.’ Seeing the other’s fear felt like sharing one heart—if his stopped, mine would stop too.
