Bowie Atthama Shares How She Broke Karmic Bonds with Her Mother, Her Karmic Debt Holder, Transforming Everything Through Vipassana Practice

She is another entertainment figure who regularly practices meditation, formerly known as a sexy actress. Bowie Atthama Cheewanichpan who has now become a businesswoman and influencer.

Recently, Bowie Atthama shared how she broke the karmic bond with her karmic debt holder—her mother—with whom she had a 30-year-long conflict. Everything began to change after Bowie started practicing Vipassana meditation. Her mother softened, accepted their differences in thought, and truly became a life supporter.

: Bowie Atthama posted a photo with her mother on her fan page, writing: “When Mom is your karmic debt holder... how did I break this karmic bond without waiting for the next life?”

Many might be surprised to see me use this phrase on an auspicious day like Chinese New Year. I dared to say this because today, I love Mom more than anything and wish every family could experience the kind of love I have now.”

I believe there are millions of "children" in society facing emotional storms at home, feeling so uncomfortable they don't want to return to their families—even on family reunion days like this.

I used to be one of them. Mom and I were adversaries who wouldn't yield. I admit Mom caused me much suffering, to the point I questioned, "Were we born to hurt each other?"

In Buddhist teachings, being born so close to fight and harbor emotions isn't coincidence; it's the "pull of karma."

A teacher once said the more intense the past harm, the closer we may be reborn to resolve karmic codes with each other.

I felt guilty for not being able to live peacefully with Mom and didn’t want to carry anger until death or meet again in another life to continue revenge.

...

After over 30 years of conflict, things began to change when I started practicing Vipassana meditation. Over 6-7 years of meditation courses, I regularly dedicated merit from my practice to Mom. When we send enough positive energy to someone, the miracle is that the energy we receive back changes.

From intense clashes, Mom gradually softened. From believing "a mother is always right," she became able to admit mistakes and apologize to me. From never understanding each other, suddenly Mom accepted our differences more. She genuinely became a supporter—offering encouragement, understanding, love, and care.

Today, I can truly say I "love Mom from my heart," not just out of duty. The happiness I regained is genuine family peace, which no amount of money or company success can buy.

...

“Parents do not owe us anything.”
“We did not ask to be born.”

For those who struggle with their parents and find comfort in such beliefs to ease their pain, I understand those feelings well. But I invite you to look from another perspective...

“Gratitude and forgiveness, if not done to repay anyone, can be done to ‘unlock’ ourselves from these karmic chains. When we send out good energy, positive currents return to us, as I have personally experienced.”

This Chinese New Year, I send encouragement to everyone trying to 'decode karmic bonds' in their own homes. The most beautiful home isn't just decorated with expensive furniture but is where our heart truly finds peace.

Xin Jia Yu Yi, Xin Ni Huo Cai. May this year be one of awakening and karmic resolution for all.”
