Kanchai Addresses Defamation Lawsuits, Delegates to Lawyers Keeps Door Open for Future Collaboration with Lawyer Kaew

The case involving the famous host continues to attract attention. Kanchai Kanplop has filed defamation lawsuits against his opponents via public advertisement, totaling five cases. Recently, reporters met Kanchai Kanplop after he attended the 14th Thailand Social Awards at Iconsiam Hall, 7th floor of Iconsiam shopping center. He opened up about the progress of the cases and addressed questions regarding Lawyer Kaew Dr. Monchai Jongkairattanakul, who is currently facing a heated personal drama and is preparing for ordination, as well as questions about a collaborative film project with Khom Kongkiat Khomsiri, who is directing the film. This marks Kanchai's full return to acting as the lead actor.

Asked about the defamation lawsuits?

“Regarding Khun Poo, I would like to say that I have assigned Lawyer Toi (Pornsak Vipasapanon) to handle the cases. I don't get involved much and leave it to him, except for days when I must appear in court. On those days, I will attend, but if Lawyer Toi can represent me, it will be handled by him. I generally do not get involved.”

What about the opposing party not ceasing, recently posting your name?

“I don’t really check those things. Sometimes it’s better not to know. But of course, I have entrusted Lawyer Toi and a legal team to manage it. That’s their responsibility.”

Do you intend to pursue the cases to the fullest extent of the law?

“That has to be the case. We live under the law, so anything beyond the line or improper will follow legal procedures. As for me, the legal advisors make the decisions.”

About gathering additional evidence?

“As I said, I let the legal advisors collect all evidence and proceed. I remove myself from involvement unless I must go to court and speak. Then we will discuss it.”

Has your lawyer said how the situation will proceed?

“They report every time. I’m informed of everything. They explain, but as for case outcomes, I prefer to keep those within the case files.”

Is the progress positive?

“For me, every hearing has gone well. We continue to follow up because everything done has its price to pay.”

Regarding Lawyer Kaew, who is preparing to ordain, have you talked with him?

“We keep in touch. Honestly, I don’t know the details of Lawyer Kaew’s personal issues. But I believe mistakes can happen, depending on whether he realizes them or makes legal defense. That’s his matter.”

From your perspective, is there a chance to work together again in the future?

“I never close doors for anyone, not just Lawyer Kaew. Everyone can face legal issues, but ultimately they must prove themselves. If they do, that’s another matter. People should give each other chances. It’s not like once something happens, it’s forbidden forever. I believe Kaew has helped people, like the mother of three who died in the BMW accident in the south. Kaew flew to assist with the case and won without charging any fee. I supported his travel expenses, but he didn’t take any legal fees. That was goodwill. What he does personally is his business. If he stumbles or has legal troubles, he must prove himself. Helping others is a separate matter.”

Have you updated on his mental state?

“Not really, but I know he plans to ordain. He called me, and I said it’s good to spend some time in the monastic life. After that, we’ll deal with things through proper channels. I don’t know how far his cases have gone or if they’re finished. But I definitely do not close the door on Kaew or anyone else.”

Did he say how long he will ordain?

“I don’t know, just that he will ordain on March 1. I planned to attend but got caught up with work. If he ordains, I might go that evening or another day. I’ll see.”

Will you hire more lawyers to assist?

“(Smiles) That’s a tough question. I don’t know what to do. Each lawyer has their own life. Honestly, I can’t answer. Sometimes actors who work daily have personal issues, too. It’s the same.”

So you separate work and personal matters?

“Exactly. Work is one thing, personal life is another.”

Asked about the upcoming movie?

“Yes, we’re still filming. It’s a good project. I haven’t been in the entertainment industry for a long time—about 10 years. This film came after Khom and I talked for a year. (Was he courting you for a year?) Don’t call it courting, just talking. We sat and discussed for a year. It started when I attended the funeral of Pong Kapol’s father, and Khom’s father-in-law passed away at the same time. Their funeral halls were next to each other, and I met Khom there.”

“I said hello and reminded him that I had told him I wanted to work with him. He said he remembered and still stood by that. Then Khom went to plan the project and contacted me to star in the film. He told me about the story, and I liked it. At first, I tried to avoid acting, but somehow he persuaded me, and I agreed.”

Is this your full return to acting?

“Yes. The challenge is I have to grow my hair long. (Do you have time?) No, but I have to do it. I don’t know what to do; I had to take time off work. Channel 3 scolded me. What can I do? I didn’t come to read news. Clients complained. I apologized and said I didn’t know what else to do because I promised.”

Are you worried about your health?

“Not at all. It’s actually good because I’m getting fitter. These days, I exercise and take better care of myself. When I wasn’t acting, I neglected myself—just work in the morning and sleep at night. Acting is different.”

Does acting affect your hosting work?

“Definitely. I haven’t hosted programs because others had to fill in for me. We’re ready to finish filming, but I have no time, so it’s delayed. Believe it or not, some actors couldn’t handle the schedule with me and dropped out. I felt terrible and embarrassed.”

Are you the lead actor?

“There’s no single lead. Many characters are important. It’s a drama-action film with heavy drama reflecting diverse lives.”

Is there a release date?

“There was a set date, but I haven’t scheduled it yet. The initial plan was March–April. Think about it: March and April haven’t even started filming. We’ve done about 7–8 scenes out of 20–30.”
