Chompoo Araya Teaches Nong Gle How to Handle Rejection, Explains Why Fans Give Her Only 20 Baht

Leading actress Chompoo Araya E. Hargate attended the L'Oreal Paris “Glycolic Universe” event at Central Ladprao shopping mall. At this event, Chompoo was asked by reporters about various topics, including the family ski trip in Japan where her daughter Nong Gle was refused entry into a cafe because the owner feared she might break dishes. Nong Gle has also not skied yet, as they prefer to wait until she is six years old before starting lessons. Additionally, Chompoo addressed why she allows fans to give Nong Gle only 20 baht, along with the issue of Pom Winij Boonchaisri a well-known makeup artist who was moved to tears after being criticized for the doll-eye makeup look, with Chompoo coming to his defense.

Asked about the trip to Japan?

“It was good, very slow life. At this age, we prefer a slow pace—waking up without worries, just waking up and playing. The boys went skiing up the mountain, and when they were hungry, they came down, and I would pick them up and take them to the market or a cafe. We also browsed some Japanese OTOP products. It’s a different vibe. Maybe because life in Bangkok is so rushed. I have to be everything: a star, a manager, a mother of three, run my own business, want to be a net idol, sell products, exercise—I want to do everything. So life in Bangkok is like that. When I reach a point in life and travel, I want it to be different—I want to slow down.”

I heard you went to a cafe but Nong Gle wasn't allowed in. People say Nong Gle responded cutely?

“Oh, that was after-the-fact narration. I have a list of places from Aunt Noi (Butsakorn Wongpuapan) and Uncle Ken (Ken Theeradej Wongpuapan) because they have a house in Niseko. Some places only locals really know, and some Japanese people don’t like crowds of tourists. They know we aren’t locals. They don’t want lots of people taking photos or filming inside. Some cafes won’t allow that. We went to one, and when I brought my daughter, they told us no entry because they feared she might break dishes. They also didn’t allow playing in the snow, saying they wouldn’t be responsible if she got hurt. Things like that.”

“But it was good—she learned what it means to be refused. I told her they feared she might break their dishes, and she said, 'Okay, I’ll come back when I’m bigger.' Nong Gle hasn’t skied yet because from experience with my older sons, Saifah and Payu, who started at 3-4 years old and got frustrated, it’s better to wait until 6. At 6, their physical and mental development is ready—they can listen and control their bodies better. So I told Nong Gle she can learn when she’s 6. She understood. When people ask if Nong Gle doesn’t ski yet, she says she’s waiting until 6. Meanwhile, she plays happily around the house.”

Previously, people praised you for letting Nong Gle receive only 20 baht from fans?

“Oh yes, it’s too much otherwise. We understand fans want to get close, which is fine. I think 20-baht notes are okay. If it’s more than that, I think it’s not right. They come to cheer us, and we get paid for our work. So small amounts like 20 baht are okay, even green notes (20 baht), but sometimes 100-baht notes slip through when we’re not paying attention.”

Has Nong Gle asked why she only gets green notes?

“Not yet, but she knows the big gray notes and doesn’t really know the difference between red, blue, or green notes. She just knows the big gray ones, but I don’t let her accept those.”

Pom Winij was moved to tears after the interview defending him?

“Did he cry? Here’s the doll-eye look (smiles). Anyone who loves me isn’t disappointed (laughs).”

They said you grew up together, and Chompoo waited to have her makeup done last when she was 16?

“Honestly, some things I can’t remember, I’m old now (laughs). Pom was one of my first makeup artists. We’ve been through a lot; lots of memories. He’s done my makeup since I was 17—that’s a long time. But earlier when doing makeup, we didn’t talk about that much, maybe a bit shy. We don’t usually discuss such things openly. My perspective is genuine; I’m not hiding anything. The reasons I choose people are mine alone. Not everyone has to understand, but I have my reasons, that’s all (laughs).”

Honestly, when asked that day, you hadn’t read much beforehand, just caught glimpses, right?

“Oh, that day there were 4-5 shows. No one knows the full truth, but I’m not concerned whether they know or not. I don’t feel the need to explain myself to anyone. I just do my business.”
