After the young singer Nueng Apivat Pongwat or Nueng ETC. fainted and fell to the floor while visiting Shanghai, China. Doctors found it was caused by acute lactic acidosis. After treatment and discharge from the hospital, Nueng ETC. attended “THE GUITAR MAG AWARDS 2026” at ONE BANGKOK FORUM and provided this update on his condition:
- I still feel dizzy and have back pain, but the doctors said everything is okay since CT scans, MRI, blood tests, heart rate, and brain scans all came back normal. Only bruising on my back remains.
- That day, I was actually in a cocktail bar but didn’t know smoking was allowed. Inside, no cigarettes were smoked, but there was a cigar bar. When I entered, I noticed a strong smoky smell. I’d been to places in Bangkok like this before without issue, so I told my friends to try it as it felt good.
- After about an hour inside, I felt like I couldn’t breathe fully. When I stood up to get fresh air, I fainted. I think my blood pressure dropped and I was fatigued from walking all day. It seemed like acute oxygen deprivation or an allergic reaction to smoke or something in the cigar. Everything just went black.
- When I fell, I didn’t realize it at first. I only came to lying on my back with a severe headache on the floor. I was conscious the whole time and tried to breathe but couldn’t. I told my wife and friends to get me outside because I couldn’t breathe. My body kept yawning as if trying to expel oxygen.
- It’s not a disease but an acute condition triggered by the environment with heavy smoke. My blood pressure is normal but dropped when I fainted. I have no underlying illnesses, usually rest well, and exercise regularly. I had a health check late last year with no concerns.
- I admit I’m now wary of cigar bars. After I fainted, many people contacted me saying they had similar experiences because cigar smoke is harsh. I thought the smell was pleasant and enjoyed dancing. I usually don’t smoke or drink. Artists normally are careful about this, but this time I was just out having fun. I’ve been in similar places before without problems, but this time it was different. I hope never to encounter cigar bars like that again.
- When I was in the emergency room in China, they did a CT scan and ultrasound to check for anything serious but found nothing. Before flying back, I stayed in a hotel for two days. Another CT scan showed no issues, then I flew back for continued care.
- The doctor didn’t forbid anything but I asked about the dizziness I still feel. The doctor said to live with it; it will gradually improve as my body adjusts. I have medication for dizziness. Sometimes I feel dizzy when bending or lying on my back at certain angles. I will follow up with the doctor again.
- Finally, Nueng ETC. thanked everyone who reached out with concern. He was surprised by how many people cared. He feels grateful that he fell on a clear floor; if it had been the edge of a table, he doesn’t know if he would have recovered. Opening his eyes after the fall, he reflected and thanked God deeply.
