Kao Supassara Shares Her Experience After Discovering Uterine Fibroids, Warns Women with Severe Menstrual Pain

After Kao Supassara once shared about a very tough period in her life during work, when she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids while filming the series "Tee Yai Ruek Dao Jone." She revealed that during that time her mental state was unstable, her period flowed every day, some days with very heavy bleeding requiring multiple changes of pants. Sometimes the lack of oxygen caused her to faint in the bathroom, even injuring her chin.

Recently, Kao attended the launch of the campaign "STOP HER PAIN – Understand Hormones, Understand Women" at Siam Square BLOCK I, where she recalled the day she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids, saying

she was shocked because at that time she found two fairly large masses. She was studying in London and had been bleeding for over three weeks, whereas normally her period lasted just 5-6 days. She endured it and planned to get checked in Thailand. However, after returning to Thailand, she delayed the check-up due to work, and since her period stopped after a month, she thought it was fine.

When she started working, she felt sharp pain in her lower back and tailbone area, prompting her to see a doctor. An ultrasound revealed two large masses inside measuring 3 cm and 4 cm.

That period was very tough as she was filming "Tee Yai Ruek Dao Jone" under harsh conditions. She lost a lot of blood, with her pants stained 3-4 times. The costume team had to prepare 3-4 pairs of jeans for her, as sanitary pads were insufficient and she had to use adult diapers, but even those couldn't contain the bleeding, which soaked through like someone losing blood heavily.

Kao explained that when she first saw the doctor, surgery was recommended, but she wanted the masses to shrink first so that the operation wouldn’t damage surrounding tissues or nerves, which could cause serious harm and slow recovery. She was given hormone injections to try to reduce the size, but the masses did not shrink. When it became unbearable, she underwent surgery, which took place five months after the initial diagnosis. Meanwhile, the bleeding continued nonstop.

She once fainted in the bathroom and hit her chin. Fortunately, her chin did not break; she just had to use a plaster to hold the skin together without stitches. Had her chin been cut, it could have caused facial disfigurement.

Kao also urged all women who suffer from severe menstrual pain every month to get checked without fear, emphasizing the importance as it is a very common issue. She encouraged everyone to take care of themselves, especially by paying attention to diet. She advised reducing processed foods if possible.

She was about 29 when diagnosed, now 30, so it happened relatively early and there is a chance it could recur. She needs to have monthly follow-ups. Now recovered, she takes care of herself and tries to avoid foods like meatballs and sausages, even though she likes them a lot. Although there’s no research confirming processed foods cause this, she personally believes it might be a factor.
