The Buddhist funeral prayer ceremony Neng Mengjai held tonight is the final evening. Meanwhile, JJ Yuwachat Neng's ex-wife, brought fried meatballs to distribute to attendees and placed some by Neng's coffin. JJ recounted that Neng appeared in a dream to the housekeeper of Ball Chernyim because they were close. She said Neng stood outside the house unable to enter, shouting to borrow a pan to fry meatballs. The housekeeper shared this with Yuri, Ball Chernyim’s wife, who then called JJ to bring meatballs for Neng today.
Has Neng come to visit? This is a matter of belief?
"Yes, on the first night. He probably came to see his daughter because usually during school breaks he would come to pick her up every term. He did so last term, and now it’s the school break. She came to pour water on her father's coffin. That night, around 3:30 a.m., I smelled incense—it seemed like he came to rest. He liked to hold his daughter while sleeping."
Did you intend to bring meatballs to share at today's event?
"Yes. Yuri, Ball Chernyim’s wife, called me and asked me to make meatballs because Neng appeared in a dream to a child at Yuri’s house. The child often cooked meals with Neng and was very close to him. She said Neng stood outside the gate unable to enter and shouted to borrow a pan to fry meatballs. So I ordered some to share with everyone here and also for Neng, who liked meatballs as a snack. I placed them by the coffin and told him, ‘You appeared in P'Daw’s dream. Yuri called and asked me to bring these; please eat them.’"
Many people have come to the event. How do you feel seeing how much Neng is loved?
"I’m very happy that so many people still love Neng. He was a good and kind person. From the first day he passed away, I have made merit offerings for him every day up to the fifth day, hoping the merit will accompany him on his journey. That’s all I can do. As for my daughter, Penny, she’s getting better. She cries when she’s alone and vulnerable, but she’s strong when others are around. Her father taught her not to be weak."
