The news shocked the entire country when an announcement was made to raise oil prices by 6 baht per liter, effective from 5:00 a.m. on 26 Mar 2026 GMT+7. Recently, Jack Green from Thairath Entertainment interviewed Aof Pongpat Vachirabunjong after he attended the “MONO OPEN HOUSE 2026” event at MONO29 Studio on Chaiyaphruek Road, asking how much this issue has affected him.
In this economy, producing many dramas, how hard must we struggle? Sometimes, even reaching the filming location is a challenge because of fuel?
“Oh, nowadays it’s just dying out. I don’t even know if we can get to the set. Oil prices… Oh (shakes head).”
Is oil really this expensive now, increasing by 6 baht per liter?
“It’s not my role to control oil prices. The government has the power to control them but still can’t do it. Eventually, they let prices float freely. And the gas stations are ridiculous too; all stations are out of stock, waiting for deliveries, signs are up, but once they say prices will rise tomorrow, they’re ready to open. What is that? Everyone knows the truth. Everyone knows why.”
“Therefore, those involved, whether the government or others, if you can solve the problem by doing something, then do it—for the poor, for everyone. I can manage; paying 6 baht more per liter is tough but manageable. But can ordinary people afford it? And it’s not just oil; everything’s becoming more expensive due to transportation costs or whatever excuses they give.”
“We just have to keep fighting and saving?”
“If looking on the bright side, our country uses oil cheaper than many others, but I still feel sorry for the poor.” (sighs)
Do you want to give encouragement to the Thai people?
“As long as we breathe, we keep fighting, all Thai people. Don’t rely on others; rely on yourselves as much as possible. Do whatever you can do yourself. Save wherever you can. Don’t eat if you don’t have to. Don’t own what you don’t need. Just survive. Everyone keeps mentioning war, which we didn’t start, but it affects our country.”
“Therefore, today, as a small country with a small population, we must save ourselves and live simply, as His Majesty King Rama IX taught us. It’s possible to get by.”
