Punpun Sutatta She opened up about her childhood, admitting she was bullied until she cried and couldn’t tell anyone. She remembers every name of those who did it.
Although many see her as a confident and strong woman, Punpun revealed the other side that few know: her role as Toey in Hormones was based on her real life at 15-16 years old when she was often bullied by friends.
Punpun said, “In Hormones, I’m not aggressive; that story is based on my real childhood. When I was young, I was ambushed and slapped. I’m not someone who fights back. I was bullied constantly. I don’t know why people thought I was tough. Actually, I just didn’t filter my words much, like a kid whose brain wasn’t fully developed. But my friends knew that Pun was a bit silly.”
Punpun recalled a traumatic event when she transferred from a Thai school to an international school. On her first day, she was hazed by having people insult her on Facebook, even though she was just wearing socks and carrying a water bottle to class. It escalated to being ambushed and hit behind the school.
Punpun said, “I remember every face. When I saw them at weddings, they would look at me, and I looked back but didn’t greet or engage. It’s cruel that a child who is mistreated will remember forever. At that time, I couldn’t do anything. I didn’t dare tell the teachers or my parents. I just cried and had to be mentally strong because they were in a group and I was alone.”
From being a nerdy, isolated child, today Punpun has overcome her fears. She shares advice for young people facing similar situations:
“I think many kids get bullied because they don’t fight back. The more they get bullied, the more scared and small they feel. But if someone is bullied and doesn’t get distracted by what those bullies do, one day the bullying will stop. Today, I don’t care anymore, and I think my life looks better now.”
