The upcoming Songkran festival is widely anticipated as a lively period for many hoping for bustling sales. However, due to the ongoing economic challenges, many have faced disappointment. Recently, "Uncle Rong" or "Jaturong" the owner of "Uncle Rong's Kitchen" which is now entering its ninth year, opened up to Thairath Entertainment about facing the economic situation with acceptance of operating at a loss.
Uncle Rong revealed that although he eagerly awaited this festival hoping for booming sales, he has been met with sharply rising raw material costs nearly across the board—green onions, coriander, chili peppers, and continuously high meat prices.
He said this situation feels like a return to four years ago when he also endured losses. He admitted it’s necessary to bear the increased costs and has chosen not to raise food prices so customers can still enjoy meals at the original prices.
Despite the tough circumstances dampening his spirits, Uncle Rong remains optimistic and is using the extended holiday to invite customers and tourists to experience a simple, relaxed atmosphere in Ratchaburi province.
He encourages anyone without travel plans to cool off by playing in the water at Khlong Chon or to have fun splashing water up close at "Uncle Rong's Kitchen." His homestay is also open and welcoming guests during the Songkran festival.
