This Songkran, Thailand finally has its own Miss World when Opal Suchata, Miss World 2025, took the stage at CentralWorld's plaza to join thousands of Thai and international tourists in Songkran water festivities, showcasing the charm of contemporary Thai culture to the world. She gripped the water gun firmly and joyfully sprayed refreshing water on fans in front of the stage.
Opal gave an interview to Thairath Entertainment, saying she was delighted to still hold the Miss World title during this period. Being named the World's Songkran Goddess for the year 2026 has helped the world see more of the Songkran tradition and understand the Thai New Year better. She felt it was a great honor tied to Thailand's long-standing history that must be preserved.
She expressed happiness at participating in Songkran celebrations this year, since she doesn't often get the chance annually. This year, she is focused and determined in her work, embracing all opportunities that come her way. She was glad to have traveled to many places, mostly to lead Songkran parades like the one at CentralWorld, where she was on stage enjoying the water festivities and meeting many people.
When asked about Cambodia, a neighboring country that often claims various Thai cultural elements such as Tom Yum Goong or even Songkran traditions, Opal responded that, as she mentioned during the Phanom Rung event, the close proximity means shared historical backgrounds. However, we cannot control that. What we can do is understand our own history, identify key features we must preserve, how to dress properly, and the correct way to prepare our dishes. By studying and embracing these elements, we create a unique identity that we are proud to present.
The world already recognizes the authenticity of what we proudly present because it is rooted in our true upbringing. We must take pride in continuing to pass on these traditions globally, including Tom Yum Goong.
