Headache Again!! Cambodia Claims Nadet and Yaya Copied Traditional Khmer Wedding Ceremony

Here we go again! Some netizens from the neighboring country, Cambodia, have shared images from the wedding of Nadet Kugimiya and Yaya Urassaya which was held on 17 April 2026 in Khon Kaen province, following the traditional customs of the Isan people, raising questions that this ceremony is originally Khmer.

Recently, Facebook userLertler Verwangposted photos and comments reflecting Cambodian views that Thai celebrities copied the traditional Khmer wedding ceremony, stating that rituals such as pouring holy water while sitting on the floor, tying wrists, and washing the groom's feet are part of Khmer wedding traditions.

Many Thai netizens who saw the post responded strongly against the Cambodians, saying these rituals have been practiced since their grandparents' time and are not new to Khmer culture. They emphasized that the engagement and wedding ceremonies like Nadet and Yaya's are Isan traditions, and since they are celebrities, the media covered it, so there is no need to get excited. They argued that not everything in the world can be claimed by Khmer culture and that Isan traditions typically include washing the groom's feet before entering the bride's house.
