It was a warm and heartening moment when the singer and actress Ying Rhatha along with her mother, the senior actress Mae Noi Pho Ngam, took their fans to visit an important family landmark: a large Bodhi tree growing at Wat Saeng Sawang in Prachinburi province.
This Bodhi tree is regarded as the origin and symbol of the family name “Pho Ngam,” which has been passed down for generations, embodying deep ancestral ties. Mae Noi also built a pavilion for the temple and keeps the ashes of their ancestors there, making it a spiritual center for the Pho Ngam family.
On her Instagram @realyingrhatha, Ying Rhatha posted a clip with the message: “Making merit in our hometown. After Songkran, we came to see the Bodhi tree, the root of the Pho Ngam family!!!! Wat Saeng Sawang, Prachinburi #YingRhatha #MaeNoiPhoNgam #YayaYing #2002Night”.
In the video, Mae Noi said, “This is the big Bodhi tree here. Pho Ngam is here. The ancestors' bones are here.” She then showed the urns containing the ashes of their grandparents and relatives and revealed she had built the temple pavilion with Ying's money.
The Pho Ngam family comes from Roi Et. Their grandfather was an elderly man from Roi Et, a Chinese who came by junk ship. When he saw the Bodhi tree by the waterway, he adopted the surname “Pho Ngam.” The area used to be water and rice fields, and the temple is called Wat Saeng Sawang.”
Among the comments from fans, many said they enjoyed the story and wanted to hear more, such as: “I want to hear more stories. Your mother tells them so well, very interesting,” “Mae Noi’s storytelling is so engaging,” “Love the naturalness of Ying and Mae Noi,” and “I’ve heard before that Mae Noi is from Roi Et,” among others.
