The legend of the Naga from the Eastern River Basin unfolds in the epic tale of love and faith, "Nakarat The Musical." This stage play is supported by the Contemporary Art Promotion Fund and the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Piwat Performing Arts Group. Featuring a new generation of actors, the production continues to pass down the legend, beliefs, love, and faith across time, creating a remarkable theatrical phenomenon. The cast shares their feelings about being part of "Nakarat The Musical," a significant new milestone in the world of performance.
Peter Pan Tatsanphon Wivitwarat, portraying Phaya Phetphat Nakarat, said, “When I was contacted to join the stage play "Nakarat The Musical," I felt very happy. It’s a challenge I want to take to bring myself into this form of acting. The story has a human element that allows us to connect emotionally and convey feelings. Regarding the belief in Nakarat, I need to deeply immerse myself in that faith and devotion, which is fascinating to study. This is another dimension that will open new perspectives for me and give me the chance to develop my acting skills.”
Marilyn Kate Gardner, playing Queen Anyarinthasinee Thewi, shared, “Belief in the Naga is very new to me. Having the opportunity to perform in "Nakarat The Musical" is my first chance to seriously research the history and background of the Naga. I want to understand and connect deeply with the role of Queen Anyarinthasinee Thewi. I plan to pay respects and seek blessings to ensure my performance is appropriate, accurate, and the best it can be. The role involves a love story, and learning about her steadfast love is beautiful. I will devote myself fully to making my performance worthy of the trust given by the seniors.”
Bew Jakrapan Phutha, playing Phaya Wayujak, said, “"Nakarat The Musical" is my first stage play and a big challenge for me as an actor. I play 'Wayujak,' a character I’ve been eager to portray. First, I have to open my mind to fully embrace the character and perform as realistically as possible. Although it’s not set in the real world and leans toward fantasy, I have to use my imagination and thoughtful interpretation to deliver the role in the best way.”
Chaba Natthamani Pichayasuthisil, portraying Queen Neelarujee, said, “I believe in the Naga 100%. I am spiritual, and I have the Miss Grand Udon Thani crown which features the Naga symbol. I have great faith in this figure. After reading the synopsis about Phaya Phetphat Nakarat, I found it very interesting. My role involves jealousy and envy in a love triangle, which is not far from human experience—it’s not just a story of the Naga world or the underworld but happens in our world. It teaches humans to live simply, avoid greed, be content with what they have, and uphold moral conduct. This stage play is a challenge I want to take on. Being a musical performer, I can use both my singing and acting skills to prove my abilities. Importantly, the story involves the Naga, which I deeply revere.”
Additionally, the cast has been rehearsing intensively and recording songs. The music for "Nakarat The Musical" is newly composed, including songs like "Deva Command," "Peace Pact," "War," "Beauty," "Star of the Heart," "Jealousy Fire," and "Loneliness." The lyrics were written by Napadon Kampanthong, with melodies composed and vocal coaching by Thanat Thanyahan. Each song carries meaning related to the characters. Join the journey of love and faith in "Nakarat The Musical," from 18-21 June at M Theatre. Tickets are now available at ThaiTicketMajor outlets nationwide.
