After international fans of the actress Thipnaree Weerawatnodom posted heated messages criticizing the outspoken host Moddam Kachapa Tancharoen about Moddam touching Thipnaree during her appearance on the show “Chae” on GMM25, accusing it of sexual harassment. Although Thai netizens explained the context—that they are close, and Moddam is LGBTQ+, also sharing photos from when Moddam starred in the film "Hor Taew Tak"—the misunderstanding persisted.
Subsequently, Moddam Kachapa addressed the issue on the program “Khao Sai Kai” on Thairath TV Channel 32, saying she just learned that interviewers must follow new rules. When interviewing BL or GL actors, they must be more cautious about physical contact to respect all parties according to international standards, because international fans deeply care. We have to be more careful, even if we have known each other for a long time.
She understood that Thai people wanted to respond by posting old photos from "Hor Taew Tak" in the comments. She said she understood their good intentions, but seeing those pictures made her want to cry. “Just scold me instead, please don’t post those pictures.” Then Moddam told Thipnaree, “Dear Thipnaree, I’m sorry. Next time, if we meet, let’s sit apart. We must stop laughing together.”
Recently, Thipnaree Weerawatnodom posted a clarification message in both Thai and English, with the following content:
“To all my beloved fans,
First, I apologize for the delay in addressing this. I wanted to take time to carefully consider so that my communication would not negatively affect anyone, including myself.
Regarding the incident, I want to clarify honestly that I did not feel uncomfortable or uneasy at all.
1. Moddam is a senior figure in the industry whom I deeply respect and admire. To me, she is the “leading lady” of everyone (the term “leading lady” here is a respectful title in the industry, not meaning a biological mother. Sometimes younger colleagues call me that too, so I want to explain this to international fans who might be unfamiliar).
2. I have met Moddam several times. The physical contact was an expression of affection and closeness, like siblings or between aunt and niece/nephew.
3. I believe Moddam had no other intentions, and I am simply like a younger sister or daughter in her affectionate care.
However, I understand and appreciate the love, concern, and good intentions from all fans. Thank you sincerely, and I apologize for not clarifying sooner, which caused some to feel worried or uneasy.
Sometimes cultural differences can cause misunderstandings, and I do not want this issue to have a widespread negative impact, so I want to communicate clearly.
I want to be loved by everyone—not only my fans but also all the people I meet and have the opportunity to work with.
Finally, I apologize to anyone who may have been affected or felt bad, and I thank Moddam for understanding the intentions, as well as the love from all fans.
From now on, I hope my dear fans will continue to love and protect me in a way that does not hurt anyone, and together we can express opinions politely and constructively, so everyone can see the kindness of my fan community as well.”
