A mother's heart aches deeply upon learning her son was harmed by someone close to him. Recently, Rosemary Cahanding, the former famous singer, posted a message that broke the hearts of mothers everywhere when her son was sexually abused. She wrote,
“If your child was sexually molested, crying in fear all night, and the perpetrator just offers to pay hush money in installments to end it, should it be like that? !!!!! 50,000 baht paid over two years with the child's feelings— is that right??????????????”
Then Rosemary detailed the incident: A friend invited her son to Khao Yai for a one-night stay. Since they had known and trusted each other for a long time, she allowed it. But when her son returned, he was withdrawn. When she asked, he said he was sexually abused by the friend. However, when she confronted the friend, he claimed it was just teasing. This left her son very scared and unable to sleep.
“A few days ago, a friend invited my son to Khao Yai for one night. This friend has been known and trusted for a long time, so we didn’t think twice and allowed it.
After returning, my son became withdrawn. When I asked what was wrong, he told me he was sexually abused. Around midnight, he fell asleep normally but then woke up feeling his genitals being touched. He was scared. He said, ‘I went to sleep at midnight, woke up at 2 a.m., and was being inappropriately touched. I felt scared but was held tightly so I couldn’t grab my phone to call you.’”
After hearing this, Rosemary contacted the friend to discuss the matter. The friend claimed it was just playful teasing, but her son said it was not play—it was sexual abuse.
Her son is usually well-behaved, quiet, and polite, so the fact that he dared to tell this shows how much it affected him. “At school they joke around by grabbing each other, but this was an adult. How could he do this to me?”
Rosemary tried to settle the issue initially but was dissatisfied. At first, he wanted to pay 20,000 baht in installments, but money cannot compensate for the feelings of a teenager. When telling the story, my son kept his head down, didn’t dare to sleep, and was terrified.
Later, he offered 50,000 baht but wanted to pay 3,333 baht for the first six months and 1,666 baht for the next 18 months, which Rosemary also rejected.
When asked if she wanted to file a police report, she said she did not want to make it a big issue yet. She just wants the friend to sincerely regret his actions from the heart, realizing he cannot do this to her son—or anyone’s child. “Last night, my son cried all night, telling me to hold him tight and not go anywhere. He’s scared and hasn’t slept.”
Following Rosemary’s post, many followers commented, sending support and urging her to report the case, not to accept a settlement. At least it would protect herself and her son, since money cannot compare to the child’s feelings.
